Μετά την επανάσταση του 1866, η έδρα τής Ἐπισκοπῆς Πέτρας μεταφέρθηκε στην Νεάπολη όπου και βρίσκεται από τότε. Κατά το έτος 1900, μετά την απελευθέρωση της Κρήτης από τούς Τούρκους, αποδόθηκε στην Επισκοπή Πέτρας και η Επαρχία Βιάννου, αφού αυτή αποσπάσθηκε από την Επισκοπή Αρκαδίας. Στην Κρητική Επανάσταση (1895-1898) Επίσκοπος ήταν ο Τίτος (Ζωγραφίδης) ο οποίος βοήθησε ενεργά στην απελευθέρωση της Κρήτης . Το έτος 1932 η Επισκοπή Ιεράς και Σητείας και η Επισκοπή Πέτρας συγχωνεύτηκαν στην Επισκοπή Νεαπόλεως. Έπειτα από μία τριετία η Επισκοπή Ιεράς και Σητείας αποσπάστηκε ξανά και η Επισκοπή Νεαπόλεως επανήλθε στο αρχικό όνομα Πέτρας. Το 1962 η Επισκοπή Πέτρας, όπως και όλες οι Επισκοπές της Κρήτης, ανυψώθηκε σε κατ’ ἀξίαν Μητρόπολη τιμής ένεκεν. Το 1993 εκδόθηκε Πατριαρχικός Τόμος, με τον οποίο ανακηρύσσονται σε εν ενεργεία Μητροπόλεις, οι μέχρι τότε τιμής ένεκεν, Ιερές Μητροπόλεις της Κρήτης. Το 2000 αποσπάσθηκε από την Ι.Μ. Πέτρας η επαρχία Βιάννου, καθώς ιδρύθηκε η Ι.Μ. Αρκαλοχωρίου, Καστελλίου και Βιάννου και ταυτόχρονα προσαρτήθηκαν σε αυτήν οι Δήμοι Χερσονήσου και Μαλίων, της πάλαι ποτέ Επισκοπής Χερρονήσου. Με την Πατριαρχική και Συνοδική Πράξη 981/2000, η Ι.Μ. Πέτρας μετονομάστηκε σε Ιερά Μητρόπολη Πέτρας και Χερρονήσου. During the Venetian occupation, the Metropolis was based in the Upper Village of Fourni. After the revolution of 1866, the seat of Bishop Petra was moved to Naples, where it has been since. M	Muriel Anastasia on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ce monastère s'appelle Koufi Petra. Il est situé à quelques km au dessus de Neapoli. Il est dédié à l'Annonciation (fête le 25 mars) . Endroit magnifique. Accueil très agréable. On s'y sent en famille. Quelques moniales très dévouées et un père spirituel de grande spiritualité qui célèbre la liturgie pratiquement tous les matins. Des vrais chrétiens ! Une partie de l'église est très ancienne. Superbes icônes et fresques. Une des moniales (qui parle couramment l'anglais) est iconographe. Ce monastère manque cruellement de subsides ! This monastery is called Koufi Petra. It is located a few km above Neapoli. It is dedicated to the Annunciation (feast on March 25). Beautiful place. Very pleasant welcome. It feels like family. Some very devoted nuns and a spiritual father of great spirituality who celebrates the liturgy almost every morning. Real Christians! Part of the church is very old. Superb icons and frescoes. One of the nuns (who speaks fluent English) is an iconographer. This monastery is in dire need of subsidies!

Typical Greeks, working hours, but they don’t want to work, they knocked on the door for half an hour and drove on. And so, the place is beautiful.
