Έχουν αυξήσει πολύ το προσδόκιμο ζωής όσων ζούμε σε «προηγμένες» χώρες, αλλά έχουν αποσταθεροποιήσει την κοινωνία, έχουν κάνει τη ζωή ανεκπλήρωτη, έχουν υποβάλει τα ανθρώπινα όντα σε ταπεινώσεις, έχουν οδηγήσει σε εκτεταμένη ψυχολογική ταλαιπωρία (στον Τρίτο Κόσμο σωματική ταλαιπωρία επίσης) και έχουν προκαλέσει σοβαρές ζημιές στον φυσικό κόσμο. Η συνεχής ανάπτυξη της τεχνολογίας θα επιδεινώσει την κατάσταση. Σίγουρα θα υποβάλει τον άνθρωπο σε μεγαλύτερες ταπεινώσεις και θα προκαλέσει μεγαλύτερη ζημιά στον φυσικό κόσμο, θα οδηγήσει πιθανώς σε μεγαλύτερη κοινωνική αναστάτωση και ψυχολογική ταλαιπωρία και μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε αυξημένη σωματική ταλαιπωρία ακόμη και σε «προηγμένες» χώρες.
 The Industrial Revolution and its aftermath was a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life expectancy of those of us living in "advanced" countries, but they have destabilized society, made life unfulfilled, humiliated human beings, led to widespread psychological distress (in the Third World, physical suffering as well) and cause serious damage to the natural world. The continuous development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject man to greater humiliation and cause greater damage to the natural world, possibly lead to greater social upheaval and psychological distress, and may lead to increased physical distress even in "advanced" countries.
