★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A stunning neoclassical Ionic order building that was founded on 1859 and was completed on 1885. Donors were the Baron Simon and his wife Ifigenia Sinas. Architects of the building were Theophil Hansen and Erst Ziller. It is made of Pentelic marble and in the front there are four statues. On the two tall columns there are the statues of Athena and Apollo and seated there are the statues of Plato and Aristotle. Highly recommended place.

This building is a modern representation of what classical Greek buildings would have looked like in their heyday. We did not go inside, but it was well worth driving by and seeing it from the outside. The red tourist double decker bus takes you right by it. Seeing this building helps ignite the imagination when visiting other ancient sites in the area. It is neat to be able to visualize what they would have looked like in their full glory.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This building with the adjacent University of Athens and the National Library of Greece are the prettiest buildings in whole Athens. This is the architecture you are looking for and expecting from Athens. A bit too crowded but understandably so.
