★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Το νησί που παλαιότερα ονομαζόταν «Ψάρι» λόγω του σχήματός του, έζησε απίστευτες δόξες τη δεκαετία του ’60. Συχνοί επισκέπτες του ήταν η Βασίλισσα Φρειδερίκη, καθώς η ιδιοκτήτρια του Λιλίκα Παπανικολάου ( σύζυγος του Σοφοκλή Παπανικολάου γενικού Επιμελητή Βασιλικής Χορηγίας των Ελλήνων Βασιλέων Γεωργίου Β’, Παύλου και Κωνσταντίνου) ήταν κυρία επί των τιμών των Ανακτόρων, με τα παιδιά της Σοφία, Ειρήνη και Κωνσταντίνο, ο αυτοκράτορας της Αιθιοπίας Χαϊλέ Σελασιέ, καλλιτέχνες, επιχειρηματίες και Ρώσσοι αστροναύτες, φίλοι της οικογένειας Παπανικολάου απ’ όλο τον κόσμο. Εποχή όμως στο νησί άφησε η επίσκεψη του Ουίνστον Τσόρτσιλ, που ήταν φιλοξενούμενος του Αριστοτέλη Ωνάση στην περίφημη κρουαζιέρα του με τη θαλαμηγό «Christina». Το νησί όμως επισκέφθηκαν το 1967, στην πιο δημιουργική στιγμή της καριέρας τους, οι Beatles λόγω του στενού φίλου και τότε συνεργάτη τους Αλέξη Μάρδα. Τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος επισκέφθηκαν τότε τη χώρα μας γιατί ήθελαν να αγοράσουν ένα νησί, όπου θα μπορούσαν να απομονωθούν μακριά από αδιάκριτα βλέμματα.
 Formerly called "Psari" because of its shape, the island experienced incredible glory in the 60's. Frequent visitors were Queen Frederick, as the owner of Lilikas Papanikolaou (wife of Sophocles Papanikolaou, General Curator of the Royal Sponsorship of the Greek Kings George II, Paul and Constantine) was the lady of the Anaktorion, Constantine, the emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie, artists, businessmen and Russian astronauts, friends of the Papanikolaou family from all over the world. However, the visit of Winston Churchill, who was a guest of Aristotle Onassis on his famous yacht cruise "Christina", left a mark on the island. However, the Beatles visited the island in 1967, at the most creative moment of their career, due to their close friend and then collaborator Alexis Mardas. The members of the band then visited our country because they wanted to buy an island, where they could be isolated away from prying eyes.

My understanding is...they were very close to purchasing it...then they started having internal strife amongst themsleves... then nixed the whole idea of owning an island together. Just imagine, had The Beatles bought it...and renamed it..."Yellow Submarine Island". Or..."Octopus's Garden". Lol. Cool though...to know this was the island they nearly purchased. ???
