★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We took a cab from Heraklion to Alexakis winery (€30 retour), biggest winery of Crete. Once arrived we we're told the person giving the tours wasn't in. We did call a couple days before and planned our trip accordingly. Luckily Erena (if I spell this correctly) was there. Normally guarding the back-office, but she offered us to taste some wines and explain a bit the story of the company, although it not being her job. We tasted three wine which were really nice.
In the end, I recommend to make a call on the same day to check if you can get a tour. But the fact Erena wanted to help us out made this a very nice experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This winery was an absolute must see if you are in the area near Heraklion. It is a MASSIVE complex but the staff was super friendly and we were able to stop by and grab some GREAT wines at such an unbelievable price.
Would highly recommend if you are looking to visit a large production scale winery and want some good, but cheap, wine to go!
