Διετέλεσε Αρχιστράτηγος κατά τον ελληνοϊταλικό πόλεμο (1940-1941) και την περίοδο 1949 - 1951 και μετέπειτα Πρωθυπουργός της χώρας (1952 - 1955). Επίσης, ήταν 1 από τους 2 μοναδικούς κατόχους του βαθμού του Στρατάρχη (ο άλλος ήταν ο Θεόδωρος Γρίβας). Πρώιμη περίοδος Γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα στις 9 Δεκεμβρίου 1883 και ήταν γιος του Λεωνίδα Παπάγου (Σύρος 1844 - 1912), υποστρατήγου του στρατού και προσωπάρχη του Υπουργείου Στρατιωτικών, και της Μαρίας Αβέρωφ, κόρης του Αυγερινού Αβέρωφ. Από την πλευρά του πατέρα του καταγόταν από τις Κυδωνίες της Μικράς Ασίας ενώ από την πλευρά της μητέρας του από την Οικογένεια Αβέρωφ. Μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα και μετά την περάτωση των εγκύκλιων σπουδών εγγράφηκε στη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών το 1901 αλλά την εγκατέλειψε σε ένα χρόνο προκειμένου να ακολουθήσει στρατιωτική εκπαίδευση στο εξωτερικό, επειδή είχε υπερβεί την ηλικία εισόδου στη Σχολή Ευελπίδων. Φοίτησε για μία διετία 1902- 1904 στη στρατιωτική σχολή των Βρυξελλών και στην επόμενη διετία στη σχολή Εφαρμογής Ιππικού της Υπρ. Alexander Papagos (9 December 1883 - 4 October 1955) was a Greek military and politician. He was Commander-in-Chief during the Greek-Italian War (1940-1941) and from 1949 to 1951 and later Prime Minister of the country (1952 - 1955). He was also one of the 2 unique holders of the rank of Stratarch (the other was Theodore Grivas). Early period He was born in Athens on December 9, 1883, and was the son of Leonidas Papagou (Syros 1844 - 1912), a military lieutenant general and military officer of the Ministry of Defense, and Maria Averoff, daughter of Avgerin Averoff. From his father's side he came from the Quinces of Asia Minor and from his mother's side from the Averoff Family. She grew up in Athens and after completing her studies she enrolled in the Law School of the University of Athens in 1901 but dropped out for a year to pursue military training abroad because she had reached the age of entering the Evelpidon School. He studied for two years 1902-1904 at the Brussels Military School and for the following two years at the Ypsilon School of Implementation.

Another reason it stands out is because it's placed outside a hospital, making it kinda...stick out from the hospital mood, by featuring a general on his horse. It also marks the entrance of the Municipal Unit of Papagou from the Municipality of Papagou - Cholargos, particularly the West Entrance to the area of Papagou. The area of Papagou took its name from the same general, Alexandros Papagos.
