This fortress was the residence of the Venetian ruler Marino Dandolo, when he conquered Andros island.
It was construct in 1207.
Towers and barracks, as well as the Venetian rulers’ coats of arms were well preserved until 1943, till when the fierce bombing by the Germans destroyed it completely.
Today one can only see its ruins.
Located at the waterfront of Chora, in the Unknown Sailor square.
You can to get there on foot, from Kairi square.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A dramatic end to the tapered tongue of land on which Chora is built. You can’t really get to the castle, but you can see it from the Naval Museum’s windows and from the square below. You can also swim from the basis and there is even a shower to wash the salt off.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The ruins of the old Castle of Andros hides two amazing views for us landscape photographers. A nice view to the uniquely beautiful Tourlitis lighthouse and a multiple exposure view of the Afanis Naftis square and the Chora of Andros through the whole on the rocky perimeter of the castle. Be extra careful when you cross the old bridge from the Afanis Naftis square to get to the old Castle.
