Stunning and serene hill full of history and rough paths. Be prepared to walk on dirt and visit small picturesque chapels. 35 remaining from a total of 350 built during a settlement which started in the 9th century AD and was destroyed during the 15th century by pirates. I recommend for early morning walk and ascend to the top. Bring water and why not pik nik!

...At the same area was the ancient city of Oie, while in the 5th-6th century Christian churches must have already been there. The Byzantine settlement dates in 896, when the people of Aegina moved here trying to avoid pirate raids.... An amazing adorable specially in the afternoon...

Just amazing. I loved this place!!! If you like urban exploration you will love this place with a long story. It's not really abandoned, but those very old chapels might be from the XVIIIth century! Great 360 view and a lot to visit

Went here in the evening when the sun was just about to go down and it was absolutely breathtaking. I have never felt such tranquility in my whole life. All the old ruins, mostly churches, can be visited and looked at which invite visitors to take a short or long walk through the grounds which can go up quite steeply and sometimes quite dangerously. Caution will have to be taken at every step, which is rewarded by a stunning view practically at every corner! My personal favourite of sites to see on the wonderful island of Aegina will always be Paleochora. Please visit!

11/10. Simply the best site on the island. Dont miss it. I don't think I have ever enjoyed a walk more. It's a decent workout to get to the higher churches, but worth it. A splendid combination of exercise and ecclesiastics.

Unbelievable views once you've reached the castle ar the top. Take good shoes. The trek to the top is a little hairy. Amazing church ruins.
