m	mpampis antoniadis on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο Αθλητικός Σύλλογος Θεσσαλονίκης «ο Άρης»[1] με έδρα την ομώνυμη πόλη, αποτελεί ένα από τα κορυφαία ελληνικά αθλητικά σωματεία με βάση τον αριθμό των αθλημάτων που έχει αναπτύξει κατά τη διάρκεια της ιστορίας του. Στα μέσα του 2016 καλλιεργούσε 12 αθλήματα, όλα ολυμπιακά εκτός από το σκάκι, με γυναικείο τμήμα σε 5 ομαδικά (βόλεϊ, μπάσκετ, ποδόσφαιρο, πόλο και χάντμπολ). Ορισμένα ανδρικά λειτουργούν σε επαγγελματική ή ημιεπαγγελματική βάση και ανεξάρτητα από τον ερασιτέχνη ΑΣ Άρη. Έμβλημα του συλλόγου είναι ο αρχαίος Θεός Άρης, Θεός του Πολέμου (εμπνευσμένο μέσα στο πανηγυρικό κλίμα των πολεμικών επιτυχιών της Ελλάδας στους Βαλκανικούς Πολέμους), και χρώματά του το κίτρινο, σύμβολο της δόξας, και το μαύρο, χρώματα που παραπέμπουν επίσης στη Βυζαντινή αυτοκρατορία (καθώς το 1914, έτος ίδρυσης της ομάδας και δύο μόλις χρόνια από την απελευθέρωση της Θεσσαλονίκης, ήταν κυρίαρχο το όραμα της Μεγάλης Ιδέας). Μαζί με τον ΠΑΟΚ συγκροτούν το ντέρμπι της Θεσσαλονίκης, το οποίο έχει μακρές ιστορικές ρίζες που ανάγονται στα μέσα της δεκαετίας του 1920 με τον Άρη, που είχε ως βάση την περιοχή της Αγίας Τριάδας, να εκφράζει κατά κύριο λόγο την αστική τάξη και τον ΠΑΟΚ το προλεταριακό-προσφυγικό στοιχείο της πόλης.[2] Ο Άρης ήταν ο πρώτος σύλλογος από τη Μακεδονία (και τη Βόρεια Ελλάδα γενικότερα), ο οποίος κατέκτησε πρωτάθλημα Ελλάδος (σε ποδόσφαιρο και υδατοσφαίριση μαζί το 1928) και πρωταγωνίστησε στα περισσότερα σπορ, αποκτώντας έτσι φίλους σε όλη τη χώρα και αποτελώντας έναν από τους δυνατότερους συλλόγους κατά τη διάρκεια του Μεσοπολέμου. Στο μπάσκετ η ομάδα έχει αξιοσημείωτη παράδοση μέχρι και σήμερα, ενώ τη δεκαετία του '80 ήταν κυρίαρχη στο ελληνικό πρωτάθλημα, συμβάλοντας παράλληλα με το εντυπωσιακό στυλ παιχνιδιού της στην περαιτέρω διάδοση του αθλήματος στη χώρα. Aκόμα, ο Άρης ήταν επίσης ο πρώτος σύλλογος από τη Θεσσαλονίκη, ο οποίος κατέκτησε πρωτάθλημα Ελλάδος και στο ανδρικό βόλεϊ (1997), σπάζοντας για πρώτη φορά την απόλυτη κυριαρχία των Αθηναϊκών σωματείων στο άθλημα. Η ομάδα μπάσκετ έχει κατακτήσει 3 ευρωπαϊκά κύπελλα και ανέδειξε δύο από τις σημαντικότερες μορφές για το άθλημα στην Ελλάδα, τους Φαίδωνα Ματθαίου και Νίκο Γκάλη. Ο τελευταίος, το 2017, έγινε ο πρώτος Έλληνας καλαθοσφαιριστής που εντάχθηκε στο "Naismith Hall of Fame", περνώντας έτσι στο πάνθεον του παγκόσμιου μπάσκετ. The Athletic Club of Thessaloniki, "Aris" [1] based in the homonymous city, is one of the top Greek sports clubs based on the number of sports he has developed during his history. In the middle of 2016 he cultivated 12 sports, all olympic except chess, with a female division in 5 teams (volleyball, basketball, soccer, pole and handball). [2] Aris was the first club from Macedonia (and Northern Greece in general), who won the Greek Championship (in soccer and water polo together in 1928) and starred in most sports, thus acquiring friends all over the country and being one of the strongest clubs during the interwar period. In basketball the team has a remarkable tradition until today, while in the 1980s it was dominant in the Greek championship, contributing alongside its impressive playing style to the further spread of the sport in the country. Still, Aris was also the first club in Thessaloniki, who won the Greek Championship and men's volleyball (1997), breaking for the first time the absolute sovereignty of the Athenian clubs in the sport. The basketball team has won 3 European Cups and has highlighted two of the most important forms for the sport in Greece, Fedon Matthew and Nikos Galis. The latter, in 2017, became the first Greek basketball player to join the "Naismith Hall of Fame," thus passing into the world basketball pantheon.
