★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Found by chance when the motorway was being constructed in 2007, this rectangular building complex (around 30 × 15m) is identified from the pottery found inside, as a sanctuary of Asklepius (an Asklepeion), the ancient Greek god of healing. The current building is Classical in date but has signs of use from the Archaic.
The complex was underpinned with concrete, lifted in sections and relocated to its current situation just off the course of the motorway that was due to run through it.
Despite promises to be publicly accessible, it appears to be boarded up and closed off.
