I would rate it with 4 out of 5 stars because the food was good but it felt like we live in a pre-pandemic era that made my experience pretty uncomfortable.

Huge disappointment. Overall, the place is a way too pretentious for the quality of the meals being served. Food was BORING, poorly cooked, and overpriced. My husband had the fish soup, which was barely edible. My grilled fish was overcooked, and the greens we had were stringy and tasteless. Terrible, somewhat rude, service. The restaurant looks impressive when you walk by (chic design, open kitchen) with a beautiful view in a lovely seaside location; and since it's a little pricier than other surrounding restaurants, we figured it would be a notch above - well, it was the worst meal we had in our entire three week trip in Greece. Sorry to say, a chef's hat does not make someone a good cook. Insult to injury - we had a bad stomach the two days following our meal at Astropelos.

Unique and unexpected flavors in an elegant restaurant by the sea. Chef Maria made us feel special. She explained in detail the dishes of the day and proposed choices that fit our taste. Try the roasted kalamari filled with chlori (local cheese) and tomato. The Astropelos salad was also delicious.

Class & very tasty food - In fact one of the best on the island!! It's located right on the sea-front. We very much enjoyed a beautiful selection of fresh seafood - Octopus and shrimp salad, ceviche, petalides & a few other amazing dishes. Bravo paidia!!

Frequent international travelers and visitors to Greece like ourselves have come to expect certain standards at waterfront restaurants on islands like Astypalea. When our host recommended Astropelos for fish and seafood, we went in with an open mind, having had mixed experiences at similar venues. Astropelos took us by surprise. Maria is in charge of the front of the house, while her chef-husband turns locally sourced ingredients into works of art of a plate. From the beginning Maria is a welcoming, thoughtful and knowledgeable hostess who knows customer service. The restaurant's forte is clearly dishes centered around fish; marinated anchovies came out fresh and the marinade did not overpower the fish. Fried fish cakes were crispy on the outside, and deliciously juicy on the inside. Appetizer salads were assembled thoughtfully, using garden-fresh local ingredients. The true highlight of our dinner was the Ceviche. Truly this dish was more Sashimi than its namesake South-American lime-soaked seafood. Thin slices of raw sea bass were dressed with a pleasantly tart, but not overpowering marinade. Flaky sea salt and crushed pepper elevated the fish to the next level by providing extra texture and crunch. The grilled red snapper was cooked to the point, highlighting its flaky yet juicy consistency. True to Greek tradition, the fish was served with the tasty olive oil-and-lemon sauce that we crave with such a treat. The chef once again showed genuine greatness by serving the snapper with what arguably were the best grilled vegetables we have enjoyed in a while. Grilled to perfection, potatoes, eggplant, peppers and others were drizzled with olive oil and sea salt, then rubbed with local herbs and rolled into a roulade, then grilled again, while retaining the vegetables' crunchiness and texture. Hardly room left for dessert, we were served heavenly Panna Cotta with strawberry jam - the "Panna" based on local goat milk. Lastly, Astropelos features an interesting wine list highlighting some great, yet lesser-known Greek wines. The rose house wine tallies in a step above the usual. Maria and her husband are bringing Greek culinary tradition paired with innovation and a knack for the right nuances to the next level with Astropelos, making Livadia on the lesser-known island of Astypalea a foodie destination.

Nice view, pleasant decor. Greek salad was nice. Tzatziki was boring. We ordered a signature dish, risotto with safran and fresh fish fillet (black snapper), which was a huge disappointment. The «fresh» fish had an unpleasant taste and the risotto was more like cooked rice. The worst thing though was the poor service. The drinks we ordered on arrival came long after the starters was served and we had to ask for them. The tables were small, but instead of cleaning them for used dishes when they arrived with new plates they just left us with all the clutter to clean ourselves. Edit: They didn’t charge us for the risotto/fish after we complained. Nice gesture!

Really great restaurant and service !! The owner was welcoming and nice. The homemade tarama is amazing. We then had the tuna filet, spaghetti alle vongole and the stuffed squid. There were all really great ! Definitely one of the best restaurant we visited in the Dodecanese islands! I don’t get the bad reviews, we were there in low season so maybe we had a better experience because of this!
