About Athens Lindy Hop | Μαθήματα Swing Χορού

Οι ιδρυτές του Athens Lindy Hop (Μαριάντζελα Σαλίχου και Μαρία Νεφέλη Αμπατζή) είμαστε οι πρωτοπόροι του Lindy Hop στον τόπο μας που φέραμε για πρώτη φορά την τρέλα του αυθεντικού swing χορού στην Αθήνα, το 2008, με τα πρώτα μαθήματα και πάρτυ και βάλαμε τα θεμέλια για την ίδρυση της μεγάλης πλέον Αθηναικής swing σκηνής.

Ξεκινήσαμε στο Λονδίνο στις αρχές του 2000 και όλα αυτά τα χρόνια υπό τη διεύθυνση και καθοδήγηση της Μαριάντζελας έχουμε υποδεχτεί χιλιάδες μαθητές, έχουμε συμμετάσχει στα μεγαλύτερα Swing Φεστιβάλ ανα τον κόσμο ενώ σίγουρα θα μας έχετε δει να χορεύουμε στα μεγάλα γνωστά φεστιβάλ και συναυλίες της Αθήνας (και εκτός Αθηνών), καθώς και σε συχνές εμφανίσεις στην τηλεόραση και σε μεγάλα events.

Είμαστε υπερδραστήριοι με πολλά μαθήματα και αμέτρητα, ατελείωτα πάρτυ στους πιο ιδιαίτερους χορούς, ενώ έχουμε συνεργασίες με τις πιο ποιοτικές και ιδιαίτερες μπάντες της σκηνή μας. Είμαστε γνωστοί για τα μεγάλα και πλούσια show μας όπως το ετήσιο βαριετέ μας, Vaudeville Revue, και τα show μας με την Big Band του δήμου Αθηναίων (Athens Big Band) όπως το τελευταίο το "The Swing Era που έγινε στο θέατρο Ολυμπία (πρώην Λυρική σκηνή).

Με μεγάλη παράδοση και γνώση πάνω στο αυθεντικό Swing δηλαδή το Lindy Hop αλλά και τους σχετικούς χορούς του όπως Authentic Jazz, Charleston, Shag, Balboa, Vintage Chorus Line, Rock 'n' Roll, Blues οι Athens Lindy Hop πιστευουμε ότι όλοι οι street και αυτοσχεδιαστικοί χοροί συνδέονται και αλληλοσυμπληρώνονται.

Με εξαίρεση το Musical Theatre Jazz το οποίο είναι στυλιζαρισμένο, το Tap, Soul, Funk, Subculture Dances, Latin American Street Dances (Samba, Forro) είναι όλοι χοροί ελευθεροι με ρυθμό, groove, swing, αυτοσχεδιασμό, και προσωπική έκφραση. Έχουν μεγάλη ιστορία και συνεχίζουν να εξελίσσονται. Τα δε Subculture dances (Soul, Northern Soul, Boogaloo, Blues Bopping, Rockabilly Bopping, Rockabilly Jive, 60s moves) είναι μία ακόμα πρωτοπορεία των ALH και δεν θα τα βρείτε πουθενά αλλού στον κόσμο συγκεντρωμένα σε ένα studio χορού!

Με έμφαση στους αυτοσχεδιαστικούς, ρυθμικούς και απόλυτα εθιστικούς χορούς με μεγάλη παράδοση και ιστορία οι Athens Lindy Hop θα σας μυήσουμε σε μια εναλλακτική μορφή διασκέδασης. Μέσα από τα μαθήματα, τα πάρτι και τα show μας, θα ανακαλύψετε ένα καινούριο κόσμο και έναν νέο τρόπο ζωής που θα σας συνεπάρει!

Athens Lindy Hop is not a mere dancing school; it is an institution of the city of Athens run by a superb and well-grounded team. Look no further!

Three reasons contribute to this: A) The variety of dance classes offered cannot be found elsewhere in Athens. From the King, Lindy Hop, to the obscure yet revered Balboa and the seduction of senses that is the Blues. B) This is probably the most welcoming, hilarious and fun bunch of peeps within the Athens swing scene. C) Their yearly shows and weekly socials are the most spectacular by far! Unfortunately all things have downsides. Minor issue, which nevertheless needs to be addressed. I have had a terrible experience and interaction with the main (male) leading instructor who, early on, exhibited dismissive, often rude and borderline-offensive behavior towards me for no apparent reason. This was brought to the individual's attention, yet the behavior did persist. Such behavior takes away a bit of the magic of this place and it is a great shame. If you happen to experience something similar don't be discouraged. The rest of the instructors are undoubtedly among the most professional, pleasant and positive people to have a lesson, a dance and a beer with! Dance away!
