Vanada is a mountain settlement near Sidirokastro and administratively belongs to the Municipality of Trifylia, Messinia Prefecture. Vanaada is about 17.5 km to the northeast of Kyparissia and about 1.5 km northwest of Sidirokastro. It has an altitude of 528 meters and is about 7 kilometers from the Ionian coast. Near Vanaada, to the east, is Avlonas, at a distance of about 7 kilometers and to the west and to the northwest of the villages Agaliani and Prodromos, at a distance of 3 and 4 kilometers respectively. The village has a long history that follows the general history of Triphylia. Vanadas was originally annexed to the old Municipality of Avlonos in 1835. The settlement is also mentioned in 1853 in the 2nd volume of the "Greek" of Iakovos Rizos Ragavis, as a village of the Municipality of Avlonos of the Trifylia District, with a population of 39 inhabitants, of 1851. The headquarters of the Municipality of Avlonos at that time, based on the same source, was the village of Sidirokastron. In 1889 the settlement was temporarily abolished, and 8 years later, in 1897, it was recognized and re-affiliated to the Municipality of Avlonos, where it remained until 1912 when the municipality was abolished. In 1899 the village was transferred from the Prefecture of Messinia to the Prefecture of Trifylia, for about a decade, until 1909, re-entering the Prefecture of Messinia as a settlement of the Trifylia District. In 1912 Vanadas was annexed to the Community of Sidirokastro, where Sidirokastron was based, and the settlement Tsamboulidis (abolished in 1920). In 1927 Vanadas was detached from the Community of Sidirokastro and settled in the Community of Vanadas. The village remained in the Community of Vanadas, from 1927 to 1997 when, in the context of the changes that took place in the local government through the "Capodistrias" Vanada was subordinated to the abolished Municipality of Avlona Messinia until 2010. Since 2011, after the new changes of the "Kallikratis" plan, Vandana belongs to the new Municipality of Trifylia. This municipality was established with the Kallikratis Program with the merging of the pre-existing municipalities Eagle, Avlonos, Garg Liana, Kiparissia, Filiatra and Tripylos community. Today, Vanadas is the seat and the only settlement of the Local Community of Vanaada of the Municipality of Trifylia. The settlement, based on the 2011 census, has 51 permanent residents, who are mainly employed in various agricultural work. In the village, apart from the traditional houses and the square, there is the church, the Holy Trinity Church, which belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Trifilia and Olympia. An annual event on the Messinian and Mediterranean diet is also held in the village, by the Municipality of Trifylia, the Association of Greek Physicists and the Federation of Associations of Trifilia, with the participation of other institutions.
