UPDATE: The woman who answered when I rang the police gave me bad info and let me understand that the phone number under the number plate is the taxi company. I've since been told by other people that it's the car service company! I'll leave my story below as a warning to people using the taxis here.. they can be really awful! However, this obviously has nothing to do with the car service company they advertise on their number plate and I thank and commend you Car Service Stefanos for your understanding and courteous reply (and great English)!! I'm truly sorry for giving you any stress, especially on a Sunday.. and I know who I'll recommend if I ever know of anyone needing car service work! ...And now you have a 5 star review from someone who's never driven a car, haha! My mother and I hailed this taxi on the road, and as I had my 5kg dog with me I asked if it was ok BEFORE GETTING IN (as after 5 years living here and 2 years with her, I know some taxi drivers don't want dogs in their car, which is fair enough.). He said no problem, greeted us with some quirky English and started driving. Then he started talking about the dog and said there's an extra charge as she's counted as a bag! I've never heard this before (and I regularly take taxis with my dog) but perhaps it is some rule that drivers don't bother with, or something drivers decide for themselves. However, such rules have to be mentioned before they accept you and start driving!!! We actually thought he was making a joke at first, with his funny English, but when we checked, realised he was serious, and then said he couldn't just tell us this half way through a journey, it was clear he thought we were tourists he could play a little trick on! He said we could get out; I said, "Yes please as you're clearly trying to trick us!" (mas koroithevis). When we got out he started demanding €3.50 and when we refused, he proceeded to call the police.. which I soon realised was fake and just a way to threaten us!! My mother is 76 and after standing in the cold fighting with this awful man for about 15 minutes, has hardly slept and is feeling ill! I'm pretty sure making fake phone calls to the police to threaten foreign women is frowned on in Greece.. and illegal in general!
