Θρυλείται ότι η έδρα της Επισκοπής Ωρεών ήταν ο Άγιος Νικόλαος με πλούσια παράδοση σε κάθε πνευματικό επίπεδο. Μάλιστα, η περιοχή των Ωρεών έχει ως καύχημα της την δράση τεσσάρων τοπικών Αγίων της ανά τους αιώνες. 1) Ο Άγιος Επίσκοπος Ωρεών Θεόφιλος με συμμετοχή στην Τέταρτη Οικουμενική Σύνοδο στην Χαλκηδόνα της Μ. Ασίας. 2) Ο Άγιος Επίσκοπος Ωρεών Φιλητός με συμμετοχή στην Έβδομη Οικουμενική Σύνοδο στην Νίκαια της Μ. Ασίας. 3) Ο Όσιος Γρηγόριος που δίδαξε για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα στην καστροπολιτεία των Ωρεών τον 11ον μ.Χ αιώνα. 4) Ο Άγιος Τιμόθεος, επίσκοπος Ωρεών, Αρχιεπίσκοπος Ευρίπου και ιδρυτής της Ι. Μ.Πεντέλης Αττικής που έδρασε τον 15ον μ.Χ αιώνα. Η μαρμάρινη πλάκα που σώζεται στο νότιο τμήμα της εκκλησίας δείχνει την προσπάθεια ανακατασκευή της από τους κατοίκους των Ωρεών από την τελευταία μεγάλη καταστροφή που υπέστη από τους Οθωμανούς Τούρκους οι οποίοι σύμφωνα με ιστορικές πηγές κατέκαψαν ολοσχερώς τους Ωρεούς τον Απρίλιο του 1827. Agios Nikolaos Oreon is the representative sample of the historicity of the ecclesiastical tradition of the once glorious Diocese of Oreon. It is legendary that the seat of the Diocese of Oreon was Agios Nikolaos with a rich tradition at every spiritual level. In fact, the area of Orei has as its boast the action of its four local Saints throughout the centuries. 1) The Holy Bishop of Oreon Theofilos with participation in the Fourth Ecumenical Synod in Chalcedon of Central Asia. 2) The Holy Bishop of Oreon Filitos with participation in the Seventh Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, Central Asia. 3) Saint Gregory who taught for a long time in the castle city of Orei in the 11th century AD. 4) Saint Timothy, bishop of Oreon, Archbishop of Evripos and founder of the Holy Monastery of Penteli, Attica, who acted in the 15th century AD. The marble slab that survives in the southern part of the church shows the effort of its reconstruction by the inhabitants of Oreos from the last great destruction suffered by the Ottoman Turks who according to historical sources completely burned Oreos in April 1827.
