C	Charalampos Tofalos on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Στη Ν.Α. πλευρά της Ιθάκης, στο ακρωτήρι Μούντα βρίσκεται το εκκλησάκι του Αϊ-Γιάννη. Το πότε χτίστηκε για πρώτη Φορά δεν είναι γνωστό. Το 1927 οι Περαχωρίτες αποφάσισαν να ξαναχτίσουν το ερειπωμένο εξωκλήσι. Την προσπάθεια αυτή στήριξαν με προσωπική τους εργασία και πολλοί κάτοικοι του Περαχωρίου, οι οποίοι κουβαλούσαν τα απαραίτητα υλικά είτε με βάρκες από τη θάλασσα, είτε με γαϊδουράκια από ένα δύσκολο μονοπάτι που υπήρχε. Γύρω στο 1946 το εκκλησάκι γκρεμίστηκε από έκρηξη νάρκης που υπήρχε στην περιοχή. Ξαναχτίστηκε, αλλά ο σεισμός του 1953 το ξαναγκρέμισε. Και πάλι όμως οι κάτοικοι φρόντισαν να φτιαχτεί για μια ακόμη φορά. Δεν υπήρξε καμία χρονιά που να μη γιόρτασε το εξωκλήσι αυτό. Ακόμα και την περίοδο της κατοχής λειτουργούσε κάτω από το άγρυπνο βλέμμα των Ιταλών, που όμως δεν πείραζαν κανέναν. Η εικόνα του Αϊ-Γιάννη, που βρέθηκε στα ερείπια της εκκλησίας, κλάπηκε πριν από 25 χρόνια περίπου και για 8 χρόνια ήταν εξαφανισμένη. Βρέθηκε όμως και πάλι στην εκκλησία, όταν- όπως λένε- ο Ιταλός που την είχε κλέψει έπαθε μεγάλες καταστροφές. Από τότε η εικόνα φυλάγεται στην εκκλησία του Αγίου Ραφαήλ στο Περαχώρι και μεταφέρεται στη Μούντα μόνο την ημέρα της γιορτής του Αγίου. Ο θρόνος που βρίσκεται στο ξωκλήσι αυτό, φτιάχτηκε από ξυλουργό στο Περαχώρι και μεταφέρθηκε στη Μούντα πάνω στα κεφάλια γυναικών. Ο χώρος γύρω από τον Αϊ-Γιάννη είναι εκκλησιαστικός και περιφραγμένος. Το όμορφο αυτό ξωκλήσι γιορτάζει στις 24 Ιουνίου, ημέρα του γενέθλιου του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Πρόδρομος. Στο πανηγύρι, στον εσπερινό και στη θεία λειτουργία μαζεύεται πολύς κόσμος. Παλιότερα μπορούσε να πάει κανείς μόνο με βάρκα, αλλά τώρα πια και με αυτοκίνητο. Ο Αϊ-Γιάννης, μακριά από τους ανθρώπους, έχει ανάγκη από τη φροντίδα μας, αφού η θάλασσα κάθε χρόνο προκαλεί καταστροφές στη γραφική αυτή εκκλησούλα. Ο Ιωάννης ο Βαπτιστής ονομάζεται και Πρόδρομος, γιατί είχε την ειδική αποστολή να ετοιμάσει το δρόμο για τον ερχομό του Χριστού. Γιος του Ζαχαρία και της Ελισάβετ, έζησε ασκητική ζωή στην έρημο, καλούσε τους ανθρώπους να μετανοήσουν και τους βάπτιζε στον Ιορδάνη ποταμό. Βάπτισε τον Ιησού Χριστό. Δε δίσταζε να επικρίνει την αδικία και την ακολασία και αυτό έγινε αιτία να συλληφθεί, να φυλακιστεί και τελικά να αποκεφαλισθεί από τον Ηρώδη Αντύπα. Ο Ιωάννης ο Βαπτιστής εμφανίζεται στο εικονοστάσι κάθε Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας. In the SE. on the side of Ithaca, the chapel of Ai-Giannis is situated in the Munda Cape. The throne found in this chapel was made by a carpenter in Perachori and moved to Munda on the heads of women. The area around Ai-Giannis is ecclesiastical and fenced. This beautiful chapel is celebrated on June 24, the birthday of St. John the Baptist. At the feast, in the evening and in the divine mode, many people are gathering. Previously, you could only go by boat, but now by car. Ay-Yannis, far from the people, needs our care since the sea every year causes disasters in this picturesque chapel. John the Baptist is also called Prodromus because he had the special task of preparing the way for the coming of Christ.
