Μέσα στην εκκλησία βρίσκεται ένα ιερό πηγάδι το οποίο η παράδοση λεεε την περίοδο της τουρκοκρατίας Οι αιτωλικιώτες είχανε κλειστεί μέσα στην εκκλησία χωρίς νερό και τροφή
Τότε βόμβα εξ ουρανού έπεσε στο χώρο σε πλησιάσεις εκεί που βρίσκεται το σημερινό πηγάδι . Από τότε το πηγάδι είναι γεμάτο νερό σ' ένα Cor όπου από κάτω ακριβώς βρίσκεται ΒΟΥΡΚΙΟΣ
Η έξοδος του Μεσολογγίου έχει εναρκτήριο σημείο το Αιτωλικό
Και χορηγία θεού προς τους αγώνες
