★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Church of Mitata, built in 1905 and now severely damaged by the earthquake of 2006.
An old man born in a house of Mitata told me his father had been the priest of that church during 55 years. He said the foundations of the church are not solid enough to face earthquakes.
He said that the total weight of the bells and their whole mechanism weights 17 tons.
That man was born in a house nearby, now also partly destroyed by the 2006 earthquake, and emigrated in Australia at the age of 35. I met him in the public square in front of the valley. I think his is a reliable source.
