 A Bit of History…

 The story of our business starts back in 1924, when Demetrios Mavropoulos came to Athens from Istanbul with his family because of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, and brought along his art, that of silver-and-goldsmithing.

  His son, Nikolaos Mavropoulos, studied under him from the age of twelve and soon became proficient himself, thus continuing the familial tradition of this type of art. His specialty was the carving on silver, or other metals, of church artifacts, such as Gospel book covers and chalices, but most importantly the carving of silver coverings for icons.

  His creations adorn many a Holy Church all over Greece, such as Saint Catherine, Saint Nikolaos Rangavas, both located in Plaka, Panagia Grigorousa in Monastiraki and Zodoho Pigi on Akadimias Street, as well as Orthodox churches in Australia, USA and elsewhere.

  His zeal and love for his art were proven by the fact that he was still creating until the age of 86. His last major pieces were Panagia Skripou in Orchomenus and the icon of The Assumption of Mary for the Church of the same name in Fyli, Attica.

  In 1952 he moved his workshop on 95, Adrianou Street and in that same time period he opened an exhibition for his creations on 5, Agias Filotheis Street. The business, to this day, is housed in the same space, managed by his daughter, Angeliki Mavropoulou, continuing this way the family tradition.

Today…

We undertake the decoration and equipment of Holy Churches, the construction of metal, silver and hand-painted(hagiography) icons, the construction of chandeliers, as well as that of handmade crosses and engolpia.

We also handle repairs of every kind of church artifact.
