★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Η ίδρυση σύγχρονων Δημοτικών Σφαγείων συζητείτο επί πολλές δεκαετίες αλλά το κόστος ήταν αποτρεπτικό. Επί δημαρχίας Εμμανουήλ Μπενάκη σχεδιάσθηκαν τα πρώτα υπερσύγχρονα σφαγεία πάνω σε γερμανικά πρότυπα. Στο επίκεντρο του ενδιαφέροντος βρέθηκε η περιοχή του Ταύρου. Ήταν έρημη, βρισκόταν κοντά στο κέντρο της πόλης και διέθετε τον άξονα της οδού Πειραιώς. Εξάλλου, εκεί το δημόσιο είχε δική του γη. Λόγω οικονομικής στενότητας εγκαταλείφθηκαν τα μεγαλεπήβολα σχέδια και τα νέα προσαρμόστηκαν στις οικονομικές δυνατότητες της εποχής. Ο θεμέλιος λίθος τέθηκε από τον Εμμανουήλ Μπενάκη (Μάρτιος 1916) αλλά λόγω των ιδιαίτερων εθνικών και πολεμικών συνθηκών που επικράτησαν το έργο ολοκληρώθηκε από τον δήμαρχο Σπυρίδων Πάτση το 1920.
 The establishment of modern municipal slaughterhouses has been discussed for many decades but the cost has been dissuasive. Emmanuel Benaki's mayoralty was designed for the first ultra-modern slaughterhouses on German standards. At the heart of interest was the Taurus area. It was deserted, it was close to the city center and had the Piraeus Street axis. Besides, there the state had its own land. Due to financial constraints, the grand plans were abandoned and the news adapted to the economic potential of the era. The foundation stone was set by Emmanuel Benaki (March 1916), but due to the particular national and military conditions prevailing in the project, it was completed by the mayor Spyridon Patsis in 1920.
