Standing out from the crowd of touristic colorful pottery, Ema and Aris built a beautiful sanctuary of artistic pottery. Definitely worth a visit.

Ema and Aris' pottery is majestic! I love their geometrical less-is-more aesthetic! Earthy colour palettes, beautiful textures! When I visited their workshop in Margarites village I found Aris on the wheel and Ema glazing, it was an amazing experience!

I did a one week workshop with Ema and Aris, at the studio in Margarites. When I arrived I knew nothing about clay except I wanted to give it a try. They helped me with all the starting wheel throwing techniques, which soon allowed me to make small object. I learned in one week enough to be able to practice by myself when I went back home. They are both extremely nice, patient, and good teachers. The shop/studio, with the nice courtyard, is so welcoming and it was a really nice week with them. I recommend this kind of workshop, it really allows you to test and learn enough about clay and wheel throwing so you can manage to make objects quickly and have enough skills to practice by yourself afterwards. Margarites is a really nice village, I’d recommend you’d stay in rethymnon or on the coast tho cause after 2 days there is not much more to do or see in the village especially evenings after the class. (I went there in October) It is really beautiful but also quite small :) but great if you want to relaxe. En arrivant je ne connaissais presque rien à la céramique à part que j’avais envie d’essayer. Ils m’ont appris toutes les techniques de base du tour de potier qui m’ont permises très rapidement de réaliser de petits objets. J’ai appris en une semaine assez pour pouvoir continuer de m entraîner seule de retour en France. Ils sont tous les deux très gentils, patients et pédagogues. Le studio/atelier, qui a une jolie cour, est très agréable et j’ai passé un super moment avec eux. Je recommande vraiment ce genre de stage, il laisse le temps de vraiment tester et apprendre suffisamment sur la terre et le tour pour pouvoir faire des objets rapidement et apprendre un maximum la technique et pratiquer. Margarites est un très joli village cependant si vous en avez la possibilité je vous recommanderais plutôt de rester a rethymnon ou sur la cote car après quelques jours il ne reste plus grand chose à faire ou voir dans le petit village, surtout le soir (j y étais en octobre) C’est très beau mais petit. Par contre super si vous voulez vous relaxer. Merci encore à Ema et Aris qui m’ont fait découvrir une nouvelle passion

Come here for ceramics made with a nod to ancient traditions, not tour busses. I loved the explanatory cards that accompanied each piece. It felt like being in an art museum.

Kind people with amazingly formed ceramics. The modern shapes look great. Well packaged for flight.

We are a family of 5 (3 teenagers boy and girls) and we spent a very soothing afternoon learning the basics of ceramic techniques at ea ceramic’s. The workshop takes place in the backyard of the store with the table protected from the sun in the shadow of a vegetal roof. I’m sure this is the freshest place in the village! Even our dog appreciated the coolness! We left our work for “cooking” and “glazing” and they shipped all of it to us back home. A great family experience!

I can absolutely recommend a workshop here :) My girlfriend and I had no experience at all in pottery as we came to crete. We wanted to have a nice experience, so we tried out this workshop. The teacher is friendly, showed us how to form the clay and gave hints when we were about to screw it. At the end we payed few € extra to get it glaced and a week later we could take it with us home. But i must admit, it is not easy. Just search for their website and send them an email. What else can I say? The ceramic they sell look pretty cool, so if you want to simply buy final products, this shop should be fine
