★ ★ ★ ★ ★ O Άγιος Θωμάς ήταν ένας από τους δώδεκα αποστόλους, μαθητές του Ιησού Χριστού. Ήταν Ιουδαίος στην καταγωγή και, όπως και άλλοι μαθητές, ασκούσε το επάγγελμα του ψαρά. Εγκατέλειψε το επάγγελμά του και ακολούθησε το Χριστό, όταν εκείνος του το ζήτησε. Ήταν από τους ένθερμους μαθητές, όμως μετά την ανάσταση ολιγοπίστησε και δεν πίστεψε ότι ο Χριστός αναστήθηκε, παρά μόνον όταν ψηλάφισε στα χέρια Του τα σημάδια της Σταύρωσης, στη δεύτερη εμφάνιση του Χριστού στους μαθητές μετά την ανάσταση Του (αναφέρεται ότι κατά την πρώτη εμφάνιση του Ιησού στους μαθητές, ο Θωμάς απουσίαζε).
 St. Thomas was one of the twelve apostles, disciples of Jesus Christ. He was of Jewish descent and, like other students, practiced fishing. He left his profession and followed Christ when he asked him to. He was one of the ardent disciples, but after the resurrection he became few and did not believe that Christ was resurrected, except when he touched in His hands the signs of the Crucifixion, in the second appearance of Christ to the disciples after His resurrection (it is reported that at his first appearance Jesus to the disciples, Thomas was absent).
