ΕΝΟΡΙΑ ΕΠΙΣΚΟΠΗΣ ΠΕΔΙΑΔΟΣ - ΕΝΟΡΙΑ ΕΠΙΣΚΟΠΗΣ ΠΕΔΙΑΔΟΣ

Agios Minas is located in the main square and is the parish church. It is the largest and most majestic church in the village. It belongs to the type of two-aisled vaulted basilica and its construction is placed in the last decades of the 19th century (1882-1884). The southern aisle is dedicated to Agios Minas who is also honored as the patron saint of the village, while the northern one is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, as a remembrance of the previous church of the Great Virgin or Virgin of Bethlehem that previously existed in the same place. The aisles communicate with stone arched openings. Special and rare is the marble iconostasis of the early 20th century, made entirely of genuine Pentelic marble. The facade and the doors are decorated with embossed stone frames Under the floor of the church, in three places, have been preserved and are visible to the visitor the findings of the excavations that took place inside the church, in 1998-1999, on the occasion of the floor replacement works. These excavations brought to light Byzantine tombs but and proved that at the same point there was a church of the early Byzantine period, which was expanded and continued to be used during the Middle Byzantine period, when the seat of the Diocese of Herronissos had already been moved here.
