Η Εταιρεία Μελετών Λαυρεωτικής (Ε.ΜΕ.Λ.) ιδρύθηκε το 1984, ως ο σύλλογος των επιστημόνων του Λαυρίου και της ευρύτερης περιοχής, είναι αναγνωρισμένο μη κερδοσκοπικό Ν.Π.Ι.Δ. από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού (ΦΕΚ 1401/Β/2001), που επιδιώκει πολιτιστικούς σκοπούς, ιδρυτικό μέλος του ελληνικού τμήματος (1991) του TICCIH. Έχει αναπτύξει σημαντικό πολιτιστικό έργο με τη δημιουργία υποδομών και θεσμών, που έχουν σχέση με τη μελέτη, σωτηρία και ανάδειξη του φυσικού και ιστορικού μνημειακού πλούτου της Λαυρεωτικής.
