Although the museum has many complementing reviews already, it’s still worth to emphasise what a great experience it was- a private tour by an owner of a uniquely kept home telling the story of artisans behind the local embroidery. The museum, its house pet and the charming town its in are the must do’s of you are on the island...

Really interesting old house with so many things to see. Huge exhibition in a small space. Astounding how they lived in this houses with the niches for the beds and so on. The guide we had was for nothing, totally unmotivated. Still worth to see!

A must see for the island of lefkada. A beautiful story about the women who embroider and weave textiles telling the heritage of a town. The museum owner was a perfect guide telling us about his rich family history.

Really nice little museum in a little town, an enthusiastic owner with allot of background stories.

If you go to Lefkada you must come here. Its a truly unique museum with wonderful pieces from times long past and gives a real insight into daily village life.

Totally worth the visit. Entrance fee is 3 euro. The dog is friendly.

Great museum not only for the things in it but mostly for the wonderful grandpa who does the exceptional tour. He is so passionate about everything in this place and the 5 euro price is completely worth it. Thank you so much!

During our visit to Karya village we went to the folklore museum. It was a very reasonable price to enter and the owner showed us around. Outside he showed us old agricultural tools, tobacco and olive oil presses and traditional fire/oven and an original well. We then went inside where we learnt about the extraordinary embroidery that is particular to the village and the lady that taught her pupils how to do it. A really interesting story where you can see how the thread was made from the raw materials and the tools they used. There was a section on how they extracted the dyes from the local flowers and plants. There is a weaving loom and many examples of the embroidery and weaving for purchase. The highlight of the tour for me was seeing the two original dwellings from the village. The space in which they lived and slept, incredible. Another nice feature is the barbers shop that was also in the village which is on display with the original cabinet which still contains the hair oils etc. There is also a memorial to one of the Greek resistance fighters from the second world war. I would recommend a visit to see how people lived and worked in the village a few decades ago.
