★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Το ενετικό κάστρο των Παξών, γνωστό σήμερα ως το κάστρο του Άι Νικόλα, ξεκίνησε να χτίζεται το 1423 και ολοκληρώθηκε το 1510. Κτισμένο στην κορυφή της ομώνυμης φυσικής νησίδας που βρίσκεται απέναντι από το Γάιο, κατασκευασμένο από τον Ενετό βαρόνο του νησιού, Αδάμ Β’ Σαν Ιππόλυτο σαν μέτρο προστασίας από τους πειρατές και τους Οθωμανούς.
Σύμφωνα με έρευνα του ιταλού αρχιτέκτονα Ρομπέρτο Βενέρι, το κάστρο στηρίχτηκε κατά πολύ σε σχέδια του Λεονάρντο Ντα Βίτσι, τα οποία σώζονται σε βιβλιοθήκες της Βενετίας.
Σήμερα, το μεγαλύτερο μέρος των τειχών παραμένει ακέραιο, όπως και η μπαρουταποθήκη, η δεξαμενή, το παρατηρητήριο, τα κανόνια, αρκετοί βοηθητικοί χώροι, αλλά και το βαθύ πηγάδι που έχει ακόμη νερό.
Το κάστρο του Άι Νικόλα δεν ήταν το πρώτο κάστρο στους Παξούς, καθώς κατά την ίδια περίοδο είχε χτιστεί και το κάστρο του Διαλέτου στη Λάκκα, που πλέον έχει καταστραφεί ολοσχερώς.
 The Venetian castle of Paxos, now known as the castle of Agios Nikolaos, was built in 1423 and was completed in 1510. Built on the top of the homonymous natural islet opposite Gaios, built by the Venetian baron of the island, Like Hippolytus as a measure of protection against pirates and the Ottomans.
According to research by the Italian architect Roberto Veneieri, the castle was very much based on Leonardo da Vinci's designs, which are saved in Venice libraries.
Today, most of the walls remain intact, just like the barracks, the reservoir, the observatory, the cannons, several auxiliary spaces, and the deep well that still has water.
The castle of Agios Nikolaos was not the first castle in Paxos, as during the same period the castle of the Dialect in Lakka was built, which is now completely destroyed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ωραίο μέρος αλλα παρατημένο. Δεν υπήρχε καν κάποιος στάνταρ τρόπος για να πας, έπρεπε να μιλήσω με κάποιον με βάρκα να με πετάξει. Εκμεταλλευτειτε το, είναι κρίμα!!
Nice place but abandoned. There was not even a standard way to go, I had to talk to someone in a boat to throw me. Take advantage of it, it's a pity !!
