Ελεύθερο Αυτοδιαχειριζόμενο Θέατρο ΕΜΠΡΟΣ - Embros.gr

The Free Self-Managed Theater EMBROS was born from the dreams and hopes of millions of people who took part in the social movements of our time. It is an open, public space with an international impact, free access for over 1000 visitors per week and a daily, diverse program of events aimed at a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds.

Since 2011, hundreds of artists have presented 400 different plays in more than 2000 performances on a non-profit & free entrance basis. There have been organized concerts of 450 music bands, events to support self-organized projects, kinematic initiatives and artistic groups, more than 300 speeches and lectures on all issues of everyday life. Hundreds of meetings, exhibitions, poetry, literature festivals, workshops, a sea of meetings and creation, a breath of freedom and expression in the city center.

To the supposed interest of HRADF (Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund) in highlighting the historical value of the building - through its sale and privatization - we respond since 2011, first with the Mavili Movement, with the Psyrri Residents Movement, etc. and then, with the opening of Empros as a self-managed space with actions that promote artistic creation and experimentation, along with socio-political intervention within an anti-hierarchical and anti-commodified structure.

We try to bring together the theory and the practice, the artistic and the social and political, on issues that concern everyone, and to redefine the role of art, today, in conditions of emergency. Today, more than ever, the continuation of the EMBROS project is vital and that is why it needs the support of all of us! The assembly of the Free Self-Managed Theater Embros expresses its support in all the social movement spaces that face the state campaign for the imposition of a regularity of submission, fear, privatization and mass stupefaction.

HANDS OFF EMBROS!

THE BUILDINGS BELONG TO THOSE WHO NOURISH THEIR DREAMS UNDER THEIR ROOF

This is a free space that hosts performing arts. All drinks are sold almost at cost, entrance is free and the performers are paid by box contribution. It is an extremely inter- cultural space. There where migrants, refugees, tourists, locals and everyone was dancing. One of the best places we have played

Find a reason to go to an event at Embros. Always interesting and engaging stuff happening. Their facebook page is a good place to look for all their events. Probably wouldn't recommend for tourists, many things will be in Greek and sensitivity to Greek self organised group way of doing things is necessary.

The police came and blocked and locked the doors and built concrete into the windows and some other entrances... But the activists broke the door open and have access to the interior... They may not be able to have control of the establishment for long......

Great experience. They make an effort to provide you with good quality theatrical plays regardless their minimum budget. The actors, the sound and light effects seem absolutely professional. Good job comrades!

A place where artists from all parts of the city meet and perform various arts. Much loved by the audience that has been supporting it all these years. The building itself is very inspiring and hopefully it will remain open for the public and not end up renovated and taken over by investors. Lately it has become a symbol of public space reclaiming by the citizens of Athens.
