We got to the emergency room in Volos with our three year old son in July, 2019 while on vacation in Skiathos. He was having fever and vomiting, the pediatrician from Skiathos couldn't help us with a cannula (the child was dehydrated) and we took the decision to take the flying dolphin to Volos. Before getting there, I read people comments saying the hospital looks good, as it has been recently renovated. If this is a recently renovated hospital, I don't want to imagine how an old one looks (for Romanian people reading this comment, it looks exactly as our state owned hospitals back home). What I appreciated is that the doctors spoke English and it was easy to communicate. Furthermore, the doctor who consulted us in the emergency room was very kind to respond to all our questions and concerns. But, she was very young and I doubt she was a registered physician, rather more a resident doctor. What disturbed me the most was that people were not respecting any hygiene measures at all, not washing their hands before consulting patients and not wearing gloves when putting a cannula (I mean this is elementary stuff!!!). They made some blood tests, but couldn't tell for sure whether the infection is viral or bacterial, nevertheless, they recommended antibiotics (ignoring the signs that the infection was more likely to be viral). We refused to give him antibiotics and it proved to be a good decision, as it was a viral infection (confirmed by our pediatrician back home). Don't forget to get your European Health Card, it was the first thing we were asked and we paid nothing for the services provided.

New clean hospital but very understaffed. Despite the difficulties, staff are caring and doctors very good but often there are long waits and frustrated patients. The emergency department is very good but you may have to wait a while. With better funding and more staff this hospital could be very good.

I went here with a broken ankle, I was shocked with the whole process, you get spoken to like you are rubbish, the receptionists are absolutely awful, the Dr's I saw in the follow up clinic where very nice, but the rest of the staff where disrespectful, I hope I never have to go back, manners are free. If they went to UK they would be treated with respect and dignity.

On 14th June 2021 I underwent full hip transplant surgery by Orthopedic surgeon Ioannis Notaras and his team of surgeons, which includes Konstantinos Katoynhs who spoke to me throughout in excellent English as did the anaesthesialogos, whose name I didn't get. My aftercare was equally friendly and helpful. The nurses and cleaners did their upmost to help you and the food was good and plentiful. It must be noted that under Covid restrictions all staff have additional duties which they conducted happily and professionally. The Proistanimi runs a very tight ship, which is conducive to a speedy recovery. I have nothing but praise for the whole team. A BIG THANKYOU. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ZAKELIN SKELLERN
