General Hospital St. George - Αγίου Ελευθερίου

My son caught the roto virus that was spreading through all the kids at Chania city he’s 3 so he got severely dehydrated and we took him to emerge . This hospital is something I only seen in movies . Complete nightmare ! Staff is short and rude (maybe they’re understaffed overworked underpaid but still my gosh it was horrendous !) not to mention the place was filthy! We had a room w four other families -only rooms they provide as I was told . The washroom was worst then a gas station bathroom . The nurse would grab thermometers from One gam to another without even sensitizing and was super irritating you didn’t have your own as she wanted you to check ur child’s temperature and report to her when she called on you Asked for new sheets as my son spilled water on his they brought me a pile of sheets and said I have to do it myself while my son. Was hooked up to IV I’m six month pregnant as well I stayed there for four full days they fed me nothing but crackers and buns and when I asked for hot water they said no ( I wanted to make my own tea or soup) I lost five lbs ! Mean while my Greek neighbours received food along the food their child was receiving … look at the picture ! It’s disgusting behavior here it feel like a nightmare ! When I got home I just cried for an hour . Who treats people this way?? Stay away dont even risk coming here please ! My other neighbour was w a two year old and also visiting from another country were treated terribly as well they had language barrier and mother wanted to know what was given or not given to her toddler and the pediatrics nurse scolleded her and snapped at her ‘what’s your problem!’ Bc she wanted clarification?! She was just crying so much . I donno where to go to make a proper complaint but this needs to be addressed .

Very helpful and thorough in their diagnosis. Speaking English was of course no problem at all. Would recommend this hospital to anyone in need of emergency care in the area. We are cetainly grateful and thankful we chose this place!

Been here twice for operations. As normal in Greece friends and family are required to take care of the patients daily basis needs. Only medical requirements are taken care of by the doctors and nurses.

What to say... They left my feverish husband out (for fear of covid) in the heat until he almost fainted. It took a while before they took notice. Although it's clear he has a bladder infection and is getting medication for it, they still wouldn't let him get out until the covid test results were back - which came back 30h later, of course negative, as the fever went down after he took antibiotics for the bladder infection. I went to the hospital but they wouldn't let me see it - although we were together until the day before - neither did they ask me to quarantine myself and my toddler. In the hospital, which looked quite old and not well kept, none of the bathrooms had any soap (I looked in 4 - see pics). He was barely getting any food. Should have been dismissed around noon, instead was dismissed at 11pm. No one was able yo give us any info during this time. There was hardly any doctor or nurse to find around, and the info desk was empty. A very nightmarish experience. I don't know if we were just unlucky and everyone was so freaked out and irrational because of the pandemic. Two stars because they admitted him and treated him with antibiotics for the bacterial infection he has and everything run through our German health insurance. If you're used to first world hospital standards maybe the private clinic is a better option. We were dumb enough to trust the public hospital for fear of exorbitant bills, and can't say anything about the private clinic as we didn't try it first hand, but it it's hard to imagine it could have been worse.

worst hospital of all my life, staff not responsive, not smiling. no consideration for the sick. I strongly recommend that you do not go to the emergency room of this hospital.

One of the worst hosptals I have been to. Waited 3hrs to be called, just to be told that i had to take a coronatest because i magicly had fever! (i didnt) All the locals got to skip in front of me. Waited outside for the coronatest in 35°C for 30 minutes, without anyone showing up or saying something. Ended up leaving because i was about to faint.

This place is a nightmare. This is what socialized medicine looks like. No covid measures in place. The staff are rude and dirty looking. The place is beyond unsanitary for a hospital. My boyfriend and I are in shock. I felt so dirty sitting in this place.

All the terrible reviews on here are completely true. *DO NOT* com to this place unless it is an absolute emergency and you cannot wait a day or more to see a private doctor, or go to a clinic or private hospital. - Staff are incredibly rude and unhelpful. - There was no toilet paper, soap, or sanitizing gel in the bathrooms. Most of the sanitizing gel containers are empty and we had to walk to a different floor to use one. - It’s incredibly run down. Looks and runs like a Soviet era hospital. - Unequal treatment for foreigners. We watched about 3-4 rounds of people (all locals or Greek) come and leave in 5 hours time. By the time my friend got examined by the doctor her original doctor had left and we had to start the process over again. And they only examined her before we were asking them to remove the IV out of her arm because we were done and wanted to leave. This place and it’s staff is a utter and complete catastrophe. Stay well away.
