GreekCar Car Hire (also known as Auto Kolitsis) was recommended to us for car hire in the Preveza area. Communication and front of house service was very good and the young guy, Vangelis, dealing with the hire was very friendly. We agreed a 3-day hire (automatic car with a car seat and a booster seat) for €154 plus a €300 deposit. It seemed reasonable and cheaper than the multinational car hire companies at Aktion Airport. Upon return of the car a small scratch was discovered on the passenger door. An older guy was consulted and without so much as a blink of an eye we were being charged €100+VAT for the repair. I said it seemed a little unfair given that some hire companies have a scratch policy and I’m sure this very minor scratch would have fallen under that had they had one. I was told the whole door would have to be repainted and that it’s usually a €200 job but they would only charge me €100. They also told me that they repair every scratch as they happen apart from in the month of August. I guess that makes financial sense when you own the repair garage next door. The older guy flippantly suggested I claim under my travel insurance. So it was a bittersweet experience. Vangelis is super friendly and accommodating but I feel the charge was unfair. I suspect Vangelis would have let it slide but I get the impression that the old guy pulls the strings and he seemed pretty unreasonable. In conclusion, rent a car with GreekCar Car Hire/Auto Kolitsis with caution. Or hire from a multinational company at the airport. Better the devil you know, I guess.
