J	John Bice on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Πολύ ωραία βυζαντινή εκκλησία, μικτού τύπου 14ου αί. Ο περιβάλλων χώρος γύρω είναι καθαρός και όμορφος. Υπάρχουν και οι προτομές των Κολοκοτρώνη, Νικηταρά και Γεωργίου Κίτσου. Το εσωτερικό του ναού είναι διακοσμημένο με αγιογραφίες. Κρίμα όμως, σχεδόν όλες έχουν υποστεί βανδαλισμούς. Ίσως γιατί λειτούργησε ένα διάστημα ώς τζαμί. Παρ' όλα αυτά παραμένει ένα ενδιαφέρον αξιοθέατο! Very nice Byzantine church, mixed type 14th c. The surrounding area is clean and beautiful. There are also the busts of Kolokotronis, Nikitaras and Georgios Kitsos. The interior of the church is decorated with hagiographies. Unfortunately, almost all of them have been vandalized. Maybe because it functioned as a mosque for a while. Nevertheless, it remains an interesting attraction!

Πάνω από το χωριό βρίσκεται το μεσαιωνικό κάστρο το οποίο γνώρισε μεγάλη ανάπτυξη και εξελίχθηκε σε εμπορικό και διοικητικό κέντρο της περιοχής. Πέρασε στα χέρια των Βυζαντινών μέχρι το 1391 όταν το κατέλαβαν οι Οθωμανοί Τούρκοι. Σύντομα έγινε πάλι τμήμα του Δεσποτάτου του Μυστρά, μέχρι το 1460. Μέχρι το 1770 ήταν ακμαιότερο από την Τρίπολη. Κατά τη διάρκεια της επανάστασης του 1821, το Λεοντάρι ήταν συχνά ορμητήριο των οπλαρχηγών. Το 1827 αμύνθηκέ με επιτυχία σε εκστρατεία του Ιμπραήμ Πασά. Έχει χαρακτηριστεί ως παραδοσιακός οικισμός. Μπορείτε να περπατήσετε στα δρομάκια του χωριού και να ανακαλύψετε βυζαντινούς ναούς με πιο σημαντικό τον ναό των Αγίων Αποστόλων στην κεντρική πλατεία. Leontari is a village near Megalopolis built at an altitude of 540. It belonged to Baronia of Beligosti. Above the village is the medieval castle which experienced great development and developed into a commercial and administrative center of the area.
