★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Το Ιεροκοινοτικό Μέγαρο αποτελεί την έδρα της Ιεράς Επιστασίας του Αγίου Όρους οι οποία είναι η επίσημη Διοικητική του Αρχή, δηλαδή κάτι σαν το Δημαρχείο του. Οι Επιστάτες που αλλάζουν ανά περιόδους διαμένουν μόνιμα στις Καρυές για την αντιμετώπιση των καθημερινών αναγκών του Αγίου Όρους. Στο αρχειοφυλάκιο του φυλάσσεται το Α΄ Τυπικό του Αγίου Όρους, υπογραμμένο ιδιοχείρως από τον αυτοκράτορα του Βυζαντίου Ιωάννη Τσιμισκή και τον Άγιο Αθανάσιο τον Αθωνίτη. Επονομάζεται «Τράγος», γιατί είναι γραμμένο σε δέρμα τράγου και αποτελεί το ιστορικότερο κείμενο του Αγίου Όρους.
