Αντικειμενικά, κάποια γεγονότα μας δημιουργούν πολύ στρες. Γενικά όμως ο άνθρωπος είναι έτσι δομημένος ώστε να τα αντέχει και να μπορεί να συνεχίζει. Αν όμως έχει συμβεί κάτι πολύ δύσκολο, όπως για παράδειγμα ο θάνατος αγαπημένου προσώπου, η διάγνωση μιας σοβαρής ασθένειας ή ένας χωρισμός, τότε είναι πιθανό να μην μπορούμε να τα διαχειριστούμε. Τότε ένας ψυχολόγος μπορεί να μας συμβουλεύσει και να μας στηρίξει. Ακόμα και αν πολλοί λένε πως "για να πας σε ψυχολόγο σημαίνει πως έχεις πρόβλημα", να θυμάστε ότι το να ξέρουμε τα όριά μας, τα θέλω μας και τα δύσκολα κομμάτια του εαυτού μας, είναι ένδειξη ωριμότητας και δύναμης, και όχι αδυναμίας.
