Kapsaliana is definitely not your average hotel. It really has the whole package. An example of a successful revival of an abandoned village by owner and architect Myron Toupoyiannis, a complex of villas nestled in the heart of the Cretan nature, working the earth in a respectful way and involving the locals in this, thus contributing to the protection of the environment and the local society and economy. If you choose to stay in Kapsaliana, you’re certain to enjoy absolute peace, real unprocessed food, connection with nature, all the while residing in one of Crete’s most historic areas, Arkadi. I definitely recommend it not only for your summer vacation, but also for autumn and winter.

Hotel is perfect for a calm and relaxed vacation. It is nice of them to welcome families but sometimes the kids and the shoutings can come in the way of the “calm and relaxed” part of your stay.

We’ve been to Kapsaliana a couple of times over the last year, this place having been highly recommended by our local Greek friends. The place being absolutely gorgeous, we naturally wanted to show it to our friends, who came to visit us on the island, before heading to the restaurant. It is with a very mixed feeling that I’m writing this review, as we have always been extremely well welcomed in the past but yesterday had the worse experience possible. When we arrived we decided to walk around the restored parts of the village. However, as soon as we came around the corner of the village past the restaurant, an extremely unpleasant man (owner?) began to shout to us in Greek asking very rudely what we were doing here? We politely told him we were walking around the village and were thinking is going to the restaurant later. To which he responded, well the restaurant may not be open to you. I’m very disappointed with this situation and we did not expect to be treated so rudely just for walking around the village. We won’t be coming back to the restaurant or the village any time soon.

Stayed here for a week for our honeymoon and I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. The design, the staff, the food… all superb. It’s beauty cannot be captured in photos. You definitely need a rental car as most things to do are a bit of a drive away, but lots of good attractions can be reached within one hour. Beaches to the south (Kalypso, Preveli), Rethymno, and Agreco Farms are all within an hour drive. We have had to make a conscious effort to venture out at meal times, and really haven’t had any food that compares to the food at Kapsaliana

Such a special and stunning location, very well curated and designed. The rooms are beautiful, the food is sophisticated and the staff will go the extra mile to accommodate all needs. An authentic gem not to be missed if you’re in the area!

This place is amazing and the staff are fantastic. A special mention to Stelios in the restaurant who made us feel so welcome and brought out the most incredible food I’ve ever eaten. Every night the food was better and better! True exceptional experience!

Fantastic place! An old village reconverted into a hotel. Each historical house is now a room. The propery is beautiful, with some nice gardens and swimming pool. The restaurant could be alone a reason to stop at this place :) The food is really fresh and in line with the local culinary tradition. Most of the ingredients come from their garden or local producers. I just wish there were more places like this one..

Beautiful place that they seem to continually restoring. Everything at the restaurant is top notch. The fact that the wait staff remembers what you drink with breakfast is such a nice small thing.
