Οι εν λόγω δραστηριότητες χαρακτηρίζονται από στοχοθεσία και επιδιωκόμενα αποτελέσματα, όπως μεταξύ άλλων είναι η ανάπτυξη της κριτικής σκέψης, η καλή φυσική κατάσταση, η δημιουργικότητα/εφευρετικότητα, η απόκτηση δεξιοτήτων κ.ά.. Πρόκειται για χρήσιμα εφόδια τα οποία θα συνοδεύουν το παιδί σε όλη τη μετέπειτα σχολική και ενήλικη ζωή του και όπως αναφέρει μία σπουδαία Ιταλίδα παιδαγωγός (Maria Montessori) τα παιδιά λαμβάνουν «την αγωγή των αισθήσεων, την αγωγή των μυών, την αγωγή της ευφυΐας, την αγωγή των συναισθημάτων και την ηθική της βούλησης».
