★ ★ ★ ★ ★ According to the (excellent) Culinary Backstreets website: "The undisputed king of Athenian γαλακτομπούρεκο. Done the traditional way, with butter from Thessaly or Mytilene, homemade phyllo... The result is that rare thing when it comes to phyllo-based, syrup-drenched desserts: a wonderfully balanced concoction, sweet but not too sweet, with cream oozing from the sides, and the phyllo remaining thin and crisp."
After reading that, we had to try it... and they’re right, it is best-in-class galaktoboureko that will leave you almost in a state of rapture. Probably for the best that I don’t live nearby.
