★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Do not be fooled by the pictures!!! The glory days of this resort are long gone. The place needs some serious maintenance and what you see in the pictures may have been true in the past. Loutra Resort is located among creepy vacant buildings. The wifi was almost non-existant, and there was no mobile signal in our flat (rented be a lady named Vasileia). It turns into a creepy place at night. There is no lock on the main gate, no reception. One of the pools was empty, and the other one filthy. The place looked like it survived a zombie attack and had been abandoned. I do not recommend it! Crete is full of lovely places, this is definitely not one of them.

*Swimming pool was dirty.
I think the good reviews are from the past and the new ones must be left by the owner’s friends. This place is in the middle of nowhere, among uninhabited buildings and unfinished construction sites. Makes you feel uncomfortable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fit for purpose compound in a little village up the hills and away from the Rethymnon crowds. The great pool is a plus and a good stop for a short stay between the West and Heraklion. Flats are modern and clean but if you are looking for a Cretan experience this is not the right place. We only stayed one night but things did not go smoothly and despite a genuine willingness to help from our kind host, our arrival under the heat with a long wait and no signs for reception was not ideal.
The 3 kids said it was good for 1 night or 2 but not a week and I agree.

3 restaurants within 15min walk in Pigi, another one, called Paprika delivers. There is a bakery few steps away and convenience store and butchers in Pigi. Not far from Rethymno, bus stop located just outside the resort takes you there in 20mins and costs only €1.20. The nearest beach is 3km away(and you can walk there enjoying the olive groves)
