Such a special experience. Relaxing Street taverna feeling. No menu…. you are shown the food in the kitchen and then asked to choose. The kids and I loved it. Excellent food, authentic feeling. Something different, special and to cherish.

With all the incredible resturants in Panormos, the family run Makis' Taverna stands out above them all. Tables sprawl out into the cobbled streets beneath a canopy of flowers, offering a warm and relaxed atmosphere. With no set menu, Makis himself invites guests to the kitchen where he presents todays selection of slow cooked meat and vegetarian dishes. Out back, a small charcoal BBQ cooks fresh meat and fish to order. The dishes are rustic and traditional, with flavour and love taking precedence over presentation. If available i recommend the slow cooked lamb, which i believe could contend as one of the best in the world. After dinner, Makis often sits to talk with his guests, telling tales over complementary watermellon and a glass of Raki. A truly unmissable experience.

This is a great place for dinner. We stumbled last week upon it while looking for a place to eat in this town. This was the only place that was full, so we thought it must be good. We we're right. The people who work here are very nice and give a very personal touch to their service. There is no menu and you will be taken into the kitchen to see what's you can choose that day. Usually you can choose between 7 and 10 dishes which is more than enough. We ate here twice and the food is absolutely delicious. It's a great staff and wonderful food for a good price. If you happen to be in this little town then this is the place to enjoy a very nice dinner. Thank you for the good service!

Delicious, traditional, entertaining, wonderful. This traditional taverna is run by the relaxed and charismatic Makis and can be found in the heart of Panormo, just look out for the cascade of beautiful pink flowers from the tree the owner planted 38 years ago when he first opened this local dining gem. I visited to this local taverna with a group of friends whilst staying in Panormo for two weeks in July 2017. It was a real joy to experience an "old school" style tarverna where you are provided with bread and slightly spicy dip, which made a tasty change to the usual tzatziki. Something you need to be prepared for THERE IS NO MENU, as I say this is a traditional taverna, and instead you are shown into the kitchen to look at what you is on the ever changing menu. In the oven we were shown a selection of scrumptious looking starters including tomatoes and peppers stuffed with rice that were absolutely delicious. Over to the fridges and you could choose from a of meat including ginormous beef steaks and pork chops as well as a choice of two different types of fish and also some vegetarian options. I had the fish (see picture) and it was exceptional. I also sampled my friends chicken souvlaki, this was the BEST souvlaki I had ever had with exquisite, succulent chicken (again check the photo). After all the mouthwatering food had been consumed Maxis joined us for a chat and a drink of raki, a national drink made from grape pumice being distilled twice. Maxis' cared that we had enjoyed our food and enjoyed his taverna but was also interested where we had come from and where we were going in life, this was a lovely touch and really made us feel welcome. We were soon joined by a local dutch friend of Maxis' who proceeded to have a go on Maxis' guitar and an impromptu sing along occurred which was unexpected but great fun. THIS IS A MUST VISIT PLACE and the longevity and success speaks wonders of the hospitality you experience and the food you enjoy. Still don't believe me? Then read the review from The Telegraph (see photo) that is proudly on show inside the taverna.

Easy to eat excellent vegetarian dishes (along with the meat offer) I liked being invited in the kitchen to see and choose by myself. Caring service and fair prices. We spent a good time here !

We visited this restaurant due to the really good reviews! When we got there I asked to see the menu and the lady sent me inside. Once inside I picked up a menu and then the man took it off me and said “no menu forget menu” and took us to the kitchen where he showed us all the food options available. We then sat down and he asked what we wanted, me being me, I said I still need to see the menu to make a decision. He ignored the request for the menu and said the dishes he recommended for us. It was all was quite funny but strange at the time and we just went with it. The food was really nice, but we wouldn’t visit or recommend due to the lack of menu or prices upfront. Very nice couple - just a strange set up and you don’t know what you’ll price until the bill comes. It was more expensive than other local places.
