Το 1934 υπήρξε ιδρυτικό μέλος των «Ελεύθερων Καλλιτεχνών»
Κατά τη διάρκεια της Κατοχής συμμετείχε στην Εθνική Αντίσταση ενώ το 1944 ήταν ένα από τα πρόσωπα που συνέβαλε καθοριστικά στην ίδρυση του Καλλιτεχνικού Επαγγελματικού Επιμελητηρίου.
Στη Λαμία, η δημοτική πινακοθήκη φέρει το όνομά του
Alekos Kontopoulos was born in Lamia in 1904.
In 1934 he was a founding member of the "Free Artists"
During the Occupation he participated in the National Resistance, while in 1944 he was one of the persons who contributed decisively to the founding of the Chamber of Professional Art.
In Lamia, the municipal gallery takes its name

The Municipal Gallery of Lamia "Alekos Kontopoulos", was founded in 1984 in the building at 6-8 Ainianon Street, in the center of Lamia, which also houses the Historical Archive of the city, the Thrace Library and the Hall of the Municipal Council.
It belongs to the Municipality of Lamia and was named after the Lamian painter Alekos Kontopoulos.
