ANTONIA LIVIERATOU: "Around 1.5 km to the west of the acropolis of the ancient city of Elateia, there is here, at Alonaki, a significant Mycenaean chamber-tomb cemetery. Rich burial offerings from the cemetery date to the Late Helladic IIIA/B periods (14 & 13th centuries BC), while others testify to a flourishing phase from Late Helladic IIIC to Early Proto-geometric (11th & 10th centuries BC). So, interestingly, the period usually regarded as the Greek "Dark Ages" is marked at Elateia by prosperity and population increase, while certain cultural innovations also make their appearance - cremations, handmade pottery, and a new, sloppy type of chamber tomb. After the Early Proto-geometric period the number of tombs gradually decreased, but some remained in use until the end of the 9th century. The cemetery was reused in the Roman period for new burials and building activities."
