N	NIKITAS TATSIS on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Η ΠΟΛΗ ΤΗΣ ΑΡΤΑΣ Η πόλη σήμερα πρωτεύουσα του ομώνυμου νομού, βρίσκεται σε απόσταση 367χλμ. από την Αθήνα, είναι κτισμένη στην αριστερή όχθη του ποταμού Αράχθου και απλώνεται αμφιθεατρικά από τους πρόποδες έως την κορυφή σχεδόν της βορειοδυτικής πλαγιάς του λόφου της Περάνθης. Η προνομιούχος θέση της, η ευφορία του εδάφους της και το κλίμα ήταν οι κυριότεροι λόγοι που έδωσαν στην πόλη μια συνεχή ζωή, η οποία χρονολογείται από τον 7ο αι. π.Χ. έως σήμερα. Η πόλη είναι χτισμένη πάνω στα ερείπεια της αρχαίας Αμβρακίας, υπήρξε εκτός από πρωτεύουσα του Κράτους των Μολοσσών του βασιλιά Πύρρου, κατά την ελληνιστική περίοδο, και έδρα του Δεσποτάτου της Ηπείρου που ίδρυσαν οι Κομνηνοί – Δούκες μετά την Αλωση της Πολης από τους Σταυροφόρους το 1204 ενώ ηταν η πρώτη πόλη σ’ ολη την ‘Ηπειρο πού απέκτησε την ανεξαρτησία της από τους Τούρκους το 1881. Η σύγχρονη πόλη της Άρτας έχει 35.000 περίπου κατοίκους και είναι το διοικητικό – εμπορικό κέντρο του νομού και είναι μία πόλη λειτουργική τόσο για τους μόνιμους κατοίκους της όσο και γιά τους επισκέπτες της όπου οι πολλοί πεζόδρομοι οδηγούν στό κέντρο της πόλης, στην αγορά και στην Πλατεία Σκουφά όπου χτυπά η καρδιά της Άρτας με τα εμπορικά καταστήματα και οχι μόνο. Η πόλη γνώρισε τα τελευταία χρόνια μεγάλη οικοδομική δραστηριότητα, η οποία ατυχώς κατέστρεψε την παραδοσιακή αρχιτεκτονική της μορφή. Τα τελευταία χρόνια όμως γίνονται φιλότιμες προσπάθειες να αξιοποιηθούν τα μνημεία της και να δοθεί ένας πιο ανθρώπινος χαρακτήρας στην πόλη.
