Often referred to as the most beautiful city in Greece, Naflio is a popular weekend destination for wealthy Athenians. Built on a small peninsula off the east coast of the Peloponnese, Naflio became the first capital of modern Greece in 1824 before Athens was captured in 1834. This car-free old town is full of neoclassical mansions and magnificent churches and is dominated by 18th century Palamidi castles. Nearby attractions include Tyrrhenia, the Theater of Epidurus, and ancient Corinth.
