Την εικόνα έφερε στον Ασωπό της Λακωνίας, το 1893 ο ιερομόναχος Αντώνιος Σκριβάνος απο την Ιερά Μονή Δοχειαρίου (Αγιον Ορος). Το 1896 επεράτωσε το εκκλησάκι και εφύτευσε 12 κυπαρίσσια, οσα ηταν τα παιδιά του. Γιορτάζει στις 8 Σεπτεμβρίου και λαμβάνει χώραν μεγάλο πανηγύρι.Οι ντοπιοι την ονομαζουν ""ΠΑΝΑΓΙΑ Η ΓΟΡΓΟΠΉ""(Παναγιά η Γοργοπή).
 Picturesque little church with priceless icon of Our Lady of Gorgoepikoou. The icon was painted on the Asopos of Laconia in 1893 by Hieromonk Antonios Skrivanos from the Holy Monastery of Dochiari (Mount Athos). In 1896, he closed the chapel and planted 12 cypress trees, which were his children. It is celebrated on September 8 and a great festival is taking place. Locals call it "" VIRGIN OF GORGOPI "(Virgin Mary of Gorgopi).
