★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Situated at the heart of Patnitha forest at 1000m altitude, lie these beautiful clearings known as Mola's Fields. These almost evergreen clearings of various sizes (from small and private to very large like football fields) are fitted with scattered benches and tables, ideal for picnic, ball games, kite flying, cycling etc.
Access to the fields is by road which can get very busy on Sundays and parking space is at best limited. Alternatively there are hiking trails leading from Thracomakedones, or one can take the casino's cable car and then hike or cycle the rest of the way. The clearings themselves can support extremely high numbers of visitors. There is a large and clearly marked web of trails around Mola for exploration too.
Just make sure to bring some warm clothes along because it gets fresh in the afternoon, don't forget to collect and throw away your garbage to one of the many bins, and make sure to leave the area before sunset because the park is a natural habitat for deer and human presence is forbidden after sunset.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Recreation open space best suited for family picnics towards the top of Parnitha mountain. No infrastructure, small parking facility. Running water available from a free running pipe. Nice escape from downtown.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wow, a big open field in the middle of a dense pine trees forest, with a fresh water spring and wild deers appearing occasionally. What a place and so close to Athens!
