AMFILOCHIA City AETOLOAKARNANIA Show map Presentation Amfilochia is a small coastal town of 6,000 inhabitants and is located in the innards of the Amvrakikos gulf. It is amphitheatrically built on two hills that in the southern part converge with each other and form a right angle. It is about 314 kilometers from Athens and is a key road point in Western Greece. Those who travel by road from Southern and Central Greece to Ioannina, Corfu, Lefkada, Arta pass through Amfilochia. It is the capital of the province of Valtos and belongs to the Prefecture of Ait / nia. Until 1907 it was known as "Karvasaras", from the Turkish Caravan-Serai which means Caravan Station. Indeed, during the Turkish occupation, all those who traveled to and from Epirus spent the night in Amfilochia. It was liberated from the Turks in 1829. It was recognized as a settlement "Karvasaras" in 1836. On May 7, 1847 it is the same community. In 1907 it was renamed Amfilochia. In 1995 the settlement of Bouka was detached from the Community of Ambelaki and since then together with the city of Amfilochia they form the homonymous Municipality.
