★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ο πύργος του Μαρμαρίου χτίστηκε το έτος 1367 όπως μαρτυρεί επιγραφή, ως πρότινος εντοιχισμένη στο κτίσμα και σήμερα στο Μουσείο της Αμφίπολης.
Ο πύργος βρίσκεται σε ύψωμα μεταξύ Στρυμόνα και της σύγχρονης Αμφίπολης, πάνω από τον αρχαιολογικό χώρο της Αμφίπολης.
Κτίτορες ήταν οι Κωνσταντινοπολίτες αξιωματούχοι αδελφοί Ιωάννης Μέγας Πριμικήριος και Αλέξιος Μέγας Στρατοπεδάρχης , κάτοχοι γαιών στην περιοχή και ουσιαστικά φεουδάρχες Χριστούπολης και Θάσου. Παραχωρήθηκε λίγο αργότερα (σίγουρα πριν το 1384) από τον Ιωάννη, στη Μονή Παντοκράτορος του Αγίου Όρους.
Δομικά, Αρχιτεκτονικά, Οχυρωματικά Στοιχεία
Διατηρείται ένας όροφος στεγασμένος και ο ένας μόνο τοίχος του δευτέρου ορόφου.
Χαρακτηριστικό του πύργου είναι η κατασκευή του εξ ολοκλήρου σχεδόν από αρχαίο υλικό, γεγονός που μαρτυρά αφενός το πλήθος των αρχαίων αρχιτεκτονικών μελών στην αρχαία Αμφίπολη.
Παρουσιάζει αξιοσημείωτη ομοιότητα με το σχεδόν σύγχρονό του πύργο των Μαριανών (1374).
The tower of Marmari was built in the year 1367 as evidenced by an inscription, as formerly built into the building and today in the Museum of Amphipolis.
The tower is located on a hill between Strymon and modern Amphipolis, above the archeological site of Amphipolis.
The founders were the Constantinople official brothers Ioannis Megas Primikirios and Alexios Megas Stratopedarchis, landowners in the area and essentially feudal lords of Christoupolis and Thassos. It was granted a little later (certainly before 1384) by Ioannis, to the Pantokratoros Monastery of Mount Athos.
Structural, Architectural, Fortification Elements
There is a covered floor and only one wall of the second floor.
Characteristic of the tower is its construction almost entirely from ancient material, a fact that testifies on the one hand the multitude of ancient architectural members in ancient Amphipolis.
It bears a striking resemblance to its almost modern Marian tower (1374).
