A small monastery with a lot of devotion and spirituality, the soul really calms down and you enjoy the Divine Liturgy as you are on Mount Athos.

Από το καθολικό συμπεραίνεται ότι ιδρύθηκε αρχές του 10ου αι. Το όνομα προέρχεται από τούς Κουταλάδες, οι οποίοι κατήγοντο από την Κουτάλη της Μ. Ασίας. Η Αγία Φιλοθέη αναστήλωσε το μοναστήρι. In a lush landscape in the shadow of Ymittos. Very quiet despite the proximity to Athens. An attempt is being made to restore it. From the catholic it can be concluded that it was founded in the early 10th century. The name comes from the Koutalades, who came from the Kutali of Asia Minor. Agia Filothei restored the monastery.

Πήγαμε σήμερα Κυριακή πρώτη φορά , αλλά δεν έγινε Θεία Λειτουργία :( μάλλον γίνεται λειτουργία πιο αραιά .. καλύτερα πάρτε ένα τηλέφωνο από την προηγούμενη ημέρα για 100% Too beautiful Monastery! We went today Sunday for the first time, but no Divine Liturgy :( probably works slower .. better get a phone from the previous day for 100%

Η Ιερά Μονή Αγίου Γεωργίου Κουταλά, βρίσκεται στους πρόποδες του Υμηττού, λίγο πιο κάτω από το Στρατόπεδο Σακέτο Βύρωνα, μέσα σε ένα καταπράσινο περιβάλλον στα νότια όρια του δάσους Καισαριανής. Σήμερα αποτελεί μετόχι της Ιεράς Μονής Πετράκη και λειτουργεί ως γυναικεία Μονή. Η λαϊκή παράδοση - μυθολογία θέλει όμως την ευρύτερη περιοχή να σχετίζεται με έναν άθλο του Ηρακλή και συγκεκριμένα την εξολόθρευση του λιονταριού του Κιθαιρώνα. Ο Ηρακλής φέρεται να εναπόθεσε στους πρόποδες του Υμηττού το τεράστιο ρόπαλο από γερό ξύλο (την κουτάλη) με το οποίο φόνευσε λιοντάρι και έκτοτε η περιοχή αποκαλείτο Κουταλάς. The Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios Koutalas, is located at the foot of Mount Hymettus, just below the Saketo Byron Camp, in a green environment on the southern borders of the Kaisariani forest. Today it is a part of the Holy Monastery of Petraki and operates as a nunnery. Folk tradition - mythology, however, wants the wider area to be associated with a feat of Hercules and specifically the extermination of the lion of Kithairon. Hercules is said to have placed at the foot of Mount Hymettus the huge bat of solid wood (the spoon) with which he killed a lion and since then the area was called Koutalas.
