Η Δόμνα Βιζβίζη ήταν μια από τις Θρακιώτισσες ηρωίδες γυναίκες που αφιερώθηκε στον αγώνα για την απελευθέρωση του Έθνους και προσέφερε και όλη την περιουσία της. Αφιερώθηκε εις την Μεγάλην Ιδέαν της Φιλικής Εταιρείας, εις την οποία μυήθηκε μετά τον σύζυγό της Χατζηαντώνη Βισβίζη, ξόδεψε για τον αγώνα και τον τελευταίο οβολό της, δια τη συντήρηση του πλοίου της ως ετοιμοπόλεμου και μάχιμου και όταν δεν μπορούσε η ίδια να το συντηρήσει, το προσέφερε και αυτό στον αγώνα. Το τέλος της; Πέθανε εγκαταλειμμένη, πτωχή και λησμονημένη. Μέσα από μια σειρά εγγράφων, αποσπάσματα των οποίων παρατίθενται, διαπιστώνει κανείς την αγωνία της Θρακιώτισσας αγωνίστριας για την επιτυχία του αγώνα, την μεγάλη προσφορά της αλλά και την ολοσχερή εγκατάλειψη από την πολιτεία. Ό	Όλγα Πολίτη on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Είναι σχεδόν αδύνατον να έχει βρεθεί κανείς στην πλατεία του Φάρου στην Αλεξανδρούπολη, χωρίς να έχει προσέξει το σύμπλεγμα γλυπτών στη μία άκρη της που απεικονίζει ένα ζεύγος, που δεν είναι άλλο από τους Δόμνα και Χατζηαντώνη Βιζβίζη. Ο Χατζηαντώνης Βιζβίζης κείτεται δίπλα σε ένα κανόνι και η Δόμνα στέκει όρθια με τα χέρια της προτεταμένα – το δεξί προς τον ουρανό και το αριστερό να δείχνει προς μία κατεύθυνση, που δεν είναι άλλη από την Αίνο, παρά το γεγονός ότι οι περισσότεροι πιστεύουν ότι δείχνει την θάλασσα. Όχι, η Δόμνα Βιζβίζη δεν δείχνει την θάλασσα. Δείχνει την Αίνο, δηλαδή την πατρίδα της. Δείχνει τον τόπο από τον οποίο ξεκίνησαν μαζί με τον Χατζηαντώνη για να πρωταγωνιστήσουν στην Επανάσταση του 1821. Το ζεύγος Βιζβίζη προσέφερε όλη την περιουσία του στον εθνικοαπελευθερωτικό αγώνα του Έθνους, ενώ είδικα ο Χατζηαντώνης συγκαταλέγεται και ανάμεσα στα ιδρυτικά μέλη της Φιλικής Εταιρίας. Η σημαντικότερη προσφορά τους ήταν το μπρίκι τους, η «Καλομοίρα», που αποτέλεσε ένα από τα πλέον αξιόπλοα καράβια της ελληνική Επανάστασης και για κάποιο διάστημα χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως το στρατηγείο των θαλάσσιων επιχειρήσεων των εξεγερμένων Ελλήνων. Ο Χατζηαντώνης σκοτώθηκε σχετικά νωρίς, όμως η Δόμνα δεν δίστασε να αναλάβει εκείνη το τιμόνι του πλοίου, το οποίο κράτησε έως ότου η «Καλομοίρα» εξεμέτρησε τον βίο της και κατέληξε «μπουρλοτιέρικο», για να πυρπολήσει μία τουρκική φρεγάτα που ήταν δεμένη στο λιμάνι του Τσεσμέ στη Σμύρνη. Η Αίνος, παρέμεινε τελικά στην εδαφική δικαιοδοσία της Τουρκίας, ωστόσο αποτελεί προγονική εστία πολλών Αλεξανδρουπολιτών, αφού μεγάλος όγκος προσφύγων είχαν μετακινηθεί από κει προς το τότε Δεδέαγατς, που μετεξελίχθηκε στη σημερινή πρωτεύουσα του Έβρου. Έτσι, η στάση της Δόμνας Βιζβίζη στο άγαλμα που φιλοτέχνησε ο Γιώργος Μέγκουλας το 1987, μόνο τυχαία δεν είναι. Η Καπετάνισσα της Θράκης στέκει αγέρωχη, όπως στάθηκε σε όλη τη διάρκεια του Αγώνα. Η Δόμνα και ο Χατζηαντώνης Βιζβίζης συγκαταλέγονται στο πάνθεον των ηρωικών μορφών της Θράκης που πρωταγωνίστησαν στην Επανάσταση του 1821 μόνο που η ιστορία τους έχει γράψει «στα ψιλά». Η Δόμνα Βιζβίζη πέθανε μόνη και αβοήθητη από την ελληνική πολιτεία στο Ναύπλιο (κατά κάποιους σε ένα σπίτι που δεν είχε καν παράθυρα). Their most important offer was their kettle, the "Kalomira", which was one of the most navigable ships of the Greek Revolution and for some time was used as the headquarters of the maritime operations of the insurgent Greeks. Hatziantonis was killed relatively early, but Domna did not hesitate to take the helm of the ship, which she held until "Kalomira" calculated her life and ended up "burlotieriko", to set fire to a Turkish frigate that was moored in his port Cesme in Izmir. Ainos eventually remained in the territorial jurisdiction of Turkey, however it is the ancestral home of many Alexandroupolitans, since a large number of refugees had moved from there to the then Dedeagac, which evolved into the current capital of Evros. Thus, the attitude of Domna Vizvizi to the statue created by George Megoulas in 1987, is not just accidental. The Captain of Thrace stands arrogant, as she stood throughout the Race. Domna and Hatziantonis Vizvizis are included in the pantheon of heroic figures of Thrace who starred in the Revolution of 1821 only their history has written "in detail". Domna Vizvizi died alone and helpless from the Greek state in Nafplio (according to some in a house that did not even have windows).
