Temple of Apollo Zoster - Apollonos 16

ENG. Founded in the 6th century BC on land at sea level, the temple was mentioned by Pausanias and Herodotus, who claim that after the battle of Salamis, the Persians confused the rocks of the promoter with Greek ships. The name Zoster comes from the golden belt (zoster) that Leto was wearing, who became pregnant with Zeus. During the late Roman Empire the temple was transformed into a church. It is now located inside a nautical recreation center. RO. Fondat în secolul al VI-lea înainte de Hristos pe un teren aflat la nivelul mării, templul a fost menționat de Pausanias și Herodot, care afirmă că, după bătălia de la Salamina, perșii au confundat stâncile promotoriului cu corăbiile grecești. Numele de Zoster îi vine de la centura aurită (zoster) cu care era încinsă Leto, rămasă gravidă cu Zeus. În timpul Imperiului Roman târziu templul a fost transformat în biserică. Acum se află în incinta unui centru nautic de recreere.

Ο Ναός του Απόλλωνα Ζωστήρα είναι ο αρχαιοελληνικός ναός που βρίσκεται μέσα στην παραλία του Αστέρα στη Βουλιαγμένη. Ο ναός ανακαλύφθηκε το 1924, όταν παιδιά από το Ορφανοτροφείο της Βουλιαγμένης έπαιζαν στην ακτή, που σήμερα είναι γνωστή σε εμάς ως Astir Beach. Ο ναός είναι σχεδόν στο επίπεδο της θάλασσας και έτσι, συχνά κατά το παρελθόν, πλημμύριζε με νερά από βροχές ή της θάλασσας. Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες, ιδρύθηκε τον έκτο αιώνα π.Χ. κατά την αρχαϊκή εποχή. Οι επιγραφές, οι οποίες βρέθηκαν στα ερείπια επιβεβαιώνουν ότι η περιοχή είναι ο Ναός του Απόλλωνα Ζωστήρα. Οι πρώτες ανασκαφές που έγιναν από το 1926 έως το 1927 επιβεβαίωσαν τις αναφορές στις αρχαίες φιλολογικές πηγές. Ο Παυσανίας αναφέρει ότι αυτή ήταν η θέση του πιο σημαντικού ιερού του δήμου των Αλών Αιξωνίδων, της περιοχής με τις φυσικές αλυκές της Αιξωνής. Ο αρχαίος δήμος των Αλών Αιξωνίδων, ο οποίος βρισκόταν μεταξύ των δήμων της Αιξωνής και του Αναγυρούντος, περιλάμβανε τις τοποθεσίες, στις οποίες σήμερα βρίσκονται σήμερα οι περιοχές της Βούλας και της Βουλιαγμένης. Ο Παυσανίας πίστευε ότι σε αυτή τη θέση και καθώς καταδιωκόταν από την οργισμένη θεά Ήρα, η Λητώ, η οποία ήταν έγκυος από τον Δία, χαλάρωσε την επίχρυση ζώνη (ζωστήρα) της. Η Λητώ ήταν ετοιμόγεννη στα δίδυμα παιδιά της, τον Απόλλωνα και την Άρτεμη,τα οποία σύμφωνα με τον επικρατέστερο μύθο γέννησε τελικά στην Δήλο.

3mins in this place and you've seen it all. Not worth paying for at all.

Uhhh it’s cool I guess as a ruin, but it’s on the private property of the beach so you have to pay to get up close, otherwise you can see it from the fence. I wish there was a historical plaque or something to tell me a little more about this place and it’s significance.

How can you miss this place when in Athens? As you stand on these ruins now you wonder why was this temple was placed by the beach? One can answer that in that temple the sunrise and the sunset are visible hence the temple of the Sun God was always bathed by Sun rays.
