Η εν Αθήναις Αρχαιολογική Εταιρεία

Eυθύς μετά την ίδρυση του ελληνικού κράτους, το 1830, που ακολούθησε τον μεγάλο Aγώνα του 1821, τέθηκαν στις πρώτες κυβερνήσεις τα μεγάλα προβλήματα της οικονομίας, της διοίκησης και της εκπαίδευσης. Tο τελευταίο αυτό πρόβλημα περιλάμβανε και τις αρχαιότητες τις οποίες επί αιώνες λεηλατούσαν και κατέστρεφαν οι αρχαιοκάπηλοι. Eπειδή η φροντίδα της ολιγομελούς κρατικής αρχαιολογικής Yπηρεσίας για τα αρχαία δεν ήταν επαρκής, μια ομάδα λογίων και πολιτικών ίδρυσε, στις 6 Iανουαρίου 1837, με την πρωτοβουλία του πλουσίου εμπόρου Kωνσταντίνου Mπέλιου την εν Aθήναις Aρχαιολογική Eταιρεία, η οποία είχε ως σκοπό την ανεύρεση, αναστήλωση και συμπλήρωση των αρχαίων της Eλλάδας.

Αλλά το καλύτερο ήταν η συζήτηση και ενημέρωση που είχαμε με τον κ. Μάθιου στη βιβλιοθήκη της Εταιρείας, εξαιρετικός! The photo exhibition for the 180 years of the Archaeological Society, although small, was quite interesting! But the best was the discussion and briefing we had with Mr. Mattheos in the Library of the Society, great!
D	Dimitris Rallis on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What can this Society do in an environment that our ancient monuments are vandalised ,no staff to protect them from people that the history of their country has not any meaning?only places that Greek State take money like Akropolis there they show their "respect to civilization"...because it's money to gain and then we claim on our culture..culture of public relations and show off..nothing with Ethics,Values,To Serve the Greek people and give him education and love for our history..the rate 5 goes only to dedicated Teachers and only to them..

They organise excellent events in their auditorium such as book presentations, talks and lectures. The interior of the building is amazing and there is a small photo gallery in the basement. "Panepistinio" metro station is very close. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
